We chose to stay in Marion as a cheap base for seeing the sights of Memphis. Marion, is after all, only 15 minutes away from downtown Memphis and the pictures of the motel online didn't look too bad. Big mistake.
The motel is on the worst designed exit ramp I have ever seen. You exit the interstate straight into oncoming traffic before you cross over onto the frontage road/exit ramp. The motel is right on this exit ramp/frontage road. It took us a while to find it...I wish we didn't.
The motel hasn't been updates in about thirty years. The wallpaper is pealing off in some parts or has water stains on it. Some of the light fixutres work, some don't. There are cobwebs in the corners, which should have assisted in catching some of the bugs, but they didn't seem to help. Hordes of flies would rush into your room every time you opened the door., so the spiders should have plenty to eat. The towels are flimsy and cheap. The key cards to the rooms sometimes work...sometimes don't. Some of the rooms have alarm clocks in them...some of them don't. The only consistency here is that the motel is about 75 feet from I-55, so you can hear the trucks really well each night.
Housekeeping didn't bother cleaning our room, so when we returned that evening, we had to check into another room. The one positive thing I can say about this hotel is that the front desk staff was very friendly and helpful through all this. (And there were no problems with the wi-fi.) Nevertheless, under no circumstance would you want to stay here. You're better off sleeping in your car...it's cleaner and more comfortable.
