The Barcelo Colonia Tropical has been a nice, small, independent hotel with some self catering. Unfortunately it seems to have been taken over by the nearby all inclusive capella beach resort.This means that self catering is no longer available, the pots and pans etc. have been removed and the on site shop does not sell food. There is no supermarket in the resort, so if you want to self cater you will have to go to another resort. This may not be a problem as many people are quite happy to all-inclusive at the capella. We had booked self catering as one of our party has special dietary needs so this was a real problem for us. We didn't like the capella, it was too noisy and organised for us, but some people will love it.It is also used as an annex of the capella. This means that people who have paid to stay at the capella may be disappointed, as you have to pay for the mini bar, restaurant etc.
