Four of us, seniors, enjoyed an excellent vacation on a time share exchange for one week... the mandatory all-inclusive was well worth the money in terms of great food, all a la carte from the menu, and top quality drinks in any quantity desired... in particular the staff of this resort are all first class...the whole resort is immaculate and well maintained.... the gardens are beautiful ... security is a non-issue and the internet service in the front lobby worked most of the time.
When we arrived we were assigned a room in building 3 on the ground level... it was dark and the balcony had no view except the plants right in front of it... we indicated that it was unacceptable and were assigned an excellent room on the second floor with a good view of the Ocean... the resort is very quiet... I would guess less than half the rooms we occupied and mostly by seniors on time share exchanges... the beach is good quality sand and you can walk for miles literally in both directions, which we enjoyed... the waves on the other hand are quite large and always there so swimming is not a strong point of this resort.... also, by early afternoon when the sun goes lower in the sky we had to move up to the pool area to be acceptably warm... lots of loungers and chairs and both pools are clean and enjoyable...so all in all we found this a very enjoyable place for a good restful vacation for seniors, but definitely not for children or younger couples expecting night shows and action...

We were there in oct 2011. I was with my husband & brother . We had a very pleasant vacation. they gave us a folder with the schedule of all the activities we could do every day @ the resort or a very good variety of activities outside of the resort. I thought it was very comfortable , the food was very good & the staff was very accomodating & friendly . VERY clean. I would recomend this to anyone wanting a relaxing vacation and plenty to do if the mood strikes you. Thank you Ocean Manor Staff!!! Catherine , Tim & Gabe..P.S. Cabarete is not within walking distance of any restaurants, shops, or activities worth your while. The beach is also not conducive to swimming (in fact, they encourage you not to get into the water.) The beach is also quite dirty and walking along it to get to Puerto Plata (several miles) is a treacherous trek! While the resort itself is well kept, the staff are great, and the food is delicious, we were one of three couples to be staying there over a period of 2 weeks. I'm no party animal but it starts to feel awkward to have a staff of 40 (?) when you're one of 2 or 6 people being waited on...a lot of stares. If you want a more lively resort with ocean swimming and activities, LOOK IN PUERTO PLATA. Also no internet in rooms.

We are a family of 4 and loved ocean manor resort. We were in room 322 and although it didn't have a view of the ocean, it was very spacious with 2 bedrooms, a large living room and balcony. The facility is immaculate. I have never seen so many staff cleaning all day long. The food was very good, too. There was a lot of variety and local delicacies on the menu. All of the food was made from scratch. The pineapple and papaya melted in your mouth. As others have said, this is a relaxed small resort with only 33 units. There were only 7 units occupied when we were there. It is exactly what we wanted because we wanted to be near the locals and to experience the culture in the Dominican Republic. There was a list of activities to do each day through the hotel. Our 13 year old boy played beach volleyball with other young resort guests and Alex, the activities director, virtually every day. The daily list included things like Spanish class, aerobics, beach volleyball, surfing lessons, bingo, and boogie boarding lessons. We also paid to do the jeep safari to 27 falls. We had a blast because we learned a lot about the culture and history of the DR but we also got to climb the last 7 falls. The other paid activity that we did was scuba diving. We went with Dive Cabarete. The owners, Jane and Chris, are amazing. They made sure my 20 year old daughter and 13 year old were confident and prepared for the ocean dive in Sosua Bay. We went down to 40 feet and saw all kinds of fabulous fish and marine life. Our youngest said it was the coolest thing he has ever done in his life. He wants to get his complete PADI certification now. I would recommend this facility if you want to get a feel for the wonderful culture and beauty of the Dominican Republic. I should mention, the beach is rough in front of the hotel but Cabarete has a very nice beach and Sosua is crystal clear and very calm. Cabarete is a 20 minute walk and Sosua is a 10-15 minute cab ride away.
