“Quiet and Laid Back”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2010

We have split personalities when we travel to the DR. There are times that we enjoy going to our favorite AI in Punta Cana, but our most favorite trips are when we venture out on our own. This past March we stayed in Cabarete for six days and then headed down to Puerto Plata for the remainder of our vacation. Birgit was great with communication during the planning stages. The only criticism and it is really not a big deal was that I had asked for a taxii to pick us up at the airport, but we ended up getting our own. Like I said no big deal, we have been traveling to the DR for over 10 years so we pretty much can handle getting our own taxi. Also there was no one really there to "check" us in, but if you are a veteran traveler to the DR this is not a huge deal either. Our room was comfortable, the pool was great and location, location, location. A short walk out of the neighborhood and you were right in town or at the beach, but it was also nice to know that after an evening out you could retire to a peaceful environment. It rained for 3 days and the road could be a mess, but it rains at home as well. Rates were great, breakfast hit the spot and everyone staying there either short or long term were quite friendly. The only thing I would suggest and this just may be because we experienced cool temps and rain was I wish we would have had a blanket instead of just the sheet. On the subject of Cabarete vs. Puerto Plata, I think I still go with PP, basically because we have friends in the area, but I am glad we experienced Cabarete and the Residencia Dominicana and I would stay there again as well as recommend it to anyone looking for a safe and enjoyable experience outside the AI experience.

“A Home away from Home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2009

We arrived at Hotel residencia Dominicana 8/5/09 departed 8/26/09. This was our first family trip to Dominican Republic. We had a budget and things worked out great, especially because the apartment had a kitchen and a fridge. We were able to prepare meals for the family. We even had a barbecue by the pool area for our Dominican friends. Hotel manager is very friendly and so is the staff. I recommend this place if you are traveling with a tight budget, It is clean, quiet, and safe. If you expect a fancy 5 star hotel this is not the one, This place is like a home away from home place. I would recommend this place if you are a simple person as myself. The beach is at walking distance, the supermarket is also at walking distance. Cabarete is a very business place but the Hotel is away from the noise. My kids loved it, especially the pool. I will be staying at Hotel Residencia Dominicana next summer.

Spent almost two months at Resi and loved every minute of it. From Birgit and her great staff to all the friendly guests, and friends that I met there. Traveling by yourself can always be hard but it was very easy to feel comfortable and make friends in such a relaxed environment. Will definetly be staying at Residencia next year!!!!!!!!!!

“not for everyone, but...”

i just spent a month at residencia; the best month of my life.

i have been everywhere, and for me - this place, the people, the town,
is what i have always unknowlingly searched for.

a few times, i will admit, i sat in my simple, inspiring little room,
my fan sounding like a tuboprop transporting me thru time and space,
the translucent aquamarine curtains undulating to the rhythm of the
ocean breeze, and was brought to tears at how wonderful and
beautiful life can be. i didn't know.

the residencia is not for everyone, but for some, maybe the searcher, the, adventurer, the poet, it can be lifechanging.

Ok, it's a cheap place, and as you always get what you pay for, it wasn't much!

basic room, electricity is on and off.
2 people run it:

1 staff member is friendly, the other 1 is horrible.

Overall: Not a recommened place.
