LP says, that rooms starts from 700 Rupees. NOT TRUE!! As a european, you are only allowed to get deluxe rooms, starting at 3.000 excl. taxes. We got 10 % discount so we paid 2.700, but still got to pay tax as if we paid 3.000! That is cheating in my world.
They have a pricelist with cheaper rooms, but you wont be alowed to get one of those rooms even if you tried. Another guest said to the front desk:" I am asking you a simple question - can I get a standard room or not?" The front desk then answered "The deluxe room is 3.000 plus taxes"! Can you be more rude than this?
Wifi is extra at 550 pr. 24. hours, but reasonably fast. Some off the staff may say, that you can only buy internet acces for ½, 1 or two hours, but you can buy for a full day.
Electricity is comming and going in the evening, but this is not affecting the internet connection.
Pool is dirty and in need of cleaning. The buttom of the pool is full with sand and the top of dead flies and leafs (the pool is only cleaned by removing some of the dead flies and leafs). There is not comfy chairs, umbrellas or sunbeds at the pool, but bird dropping galore. Some of the receptionists may say that there is sunbeds at checkinn but thats is only to get you into a room. There is not! It seems like tourists are not wanted, and since indian business people dont use the pool, it is not taking care of. The pool area is a strange mess of different chairs, tables and broken sunbeds comibined with pretty flowers and green grass. There is a pool guy, who sits there all day, doing absolutely nothing! Twice in 5 hours he removed some leafs from the top off the pool. The rest of the time he was just sitting and looking at us and at...... well... nothing.
Also at the front desk, they allways let local people get in front off tourists, and sometimes they are right out rude to customers.
The service makes you feel at Fawlty Towers. In the morning, nobody cleans the tables, eventhough there are more then 10 people working in and around the breakfast room! And one point, there were 8 free tables, but all of them were full of dirty plates and glasses, so guests had to move the plates to get a table. At 12 o´clock our rooms was still not cleaned, and no cleaning staff in sight, so we had to ask reception to call the cleaners. They gave us new toilet rolles, but they dont put them on the holder? Why not??? When we asked for towels at the pool, the "pool-guy" showed us two used towels, and gave us them! We had to go to the reception (twice), and wait for 30 minutes to get a simple thing as two clean towels...
Curtains in the room are "see-through", so the rooms gets really hot during the day, even though there is an ok AC. No refrigerator in the room, but kettle to make coffee.
The hotel has great potential, but the management and staff are doing a very poor job. Location is good, only 5 minutes walk to the busstation and 10 to Trichy Junction.
We stayed here two days, and chose this place for the pool, since we needed a place to relax. It was ok with this in mind but not more than that.
They have 100 TV-channels, but no english speaking news channelse.
The hotel is vegetarian, so no beer by the pool :-)
The bed and the room is big, but the bed is in need of changing. You are starting to feel the springs when sleeping.
There is just warm water in the shower, but not hot water. There is a bathtub, but the water is not hot enough to make the tub useable.
On the positive side, breakfast was good, and for the first time in india, the milk for the cornflakes was actually COLD! The breakfast room also had nice AC. You get a daily newspaper.
In short - if you need a outside area to relax, this is ok, but way overpriced. If you just need a room, take the hotel on the other side. Similar rooms are app. 800 rupees less, but a bit smaller and two single beds and smaller TV.
PS: If you travel in South India and uses the Lonely Planet guidebook - none off there budget or midrange prices are true. The prices are way higher than LP claimes, and often you can not get the cheap rooms as a foreigner.
