“A night near the crater”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

We stayed one night @ the Lemela Ngorongora Mobile Camp. We arrived in the late afternoon after a beautiful day in the crater.

There was a warm welcome by Godwin (Manger) and his team. We went to the big dinning tent where they served us a good juice and we did the registration there.

After that we got an introduction to the life in a camp by Godwin. He instructed us about everything important to now such as when to call the Masai to give you guidance on the way from or to the tent, how the shower system works (you need to give the a short advice in order to make hot water), dinner and breakfast time.

The tent was nicely equipped and we enjoyed the bush shower. After a short test we went to see bush TV (open fire near the dinning tent). We had beer, white wine and roasted cashew nuts as apero. And we met the other guests.

At around 20:00 they served and excellent dinner in the big tent. It was one big table and all the guest eat together.

Back to the tent which was warm (due to the heater - it is needed the camp is on approx. 2200 meters above see level) we had a wonderful sleep. We enjoyed as well the hot-water bags in the bed.

After a proper breakfast early morning it was time to say goodbye.

We can only say it was a really pleasant stay and Godwin and the team did a good job. Thanks a lot team.

PS. pls consider always it is not a hotel it is a camp - and the boys do really the best to make your stay unforgettable.

“Nice location, near the entrance of the crater”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

This tented mobile camp comes with a personal and welcoming service. The friendly and English speaking Maasai employees, wearing their traditional dresses, contribute to the local touch of the camp. Compared to the other camps we know (i.e. in the Serengeti), the infrastructure is a slightly simpler (e. g. unheated toilets, shower). During night, the outside temperature can be surprisingly low here. We were there in December and the temperature fell to about 10°C or so. Although the tents are heated for the night, don’t forget to take adequate clothing with you. Considering the logistics related to such a camp, food was good (although we missed local dishes).

“Genuine service and a convenient location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

We really enjoyed our stay at Lemala Ngorogoro over Christmas. The staff were very friendly and keen to help in any way. The tents were comfortable and staff worked hard to manage the limited resources well.

Room Tip: All rooms good.

“Lemala Ngorongoro Tented Camp is a wonderful place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2011

This was the second Lemala Camp that we stayed at during our safari in September 2011. My wife and I were impressed. That both camps were great told us that the others are probably nice, too.

We had a wonderful game drive through the Ngorongoro crater. We saw the rare and elusive Black Rhino (mother and calf), as well as lions (including a dead one), herds of gazelles, hyenas, you name it. Topping off the drive by staying at the Ngorongoro Lemala camp was just perfect!

Again, we were impressed with the service, food, wine, and accommodations. Both the Lemala Ngorongoro and Lemala Mara camps were obviously very well-managed. Truly, if you stay at these places you will have a hard time believing you are in the middle of the Serengeti or the top of a crater in Africa.

Be aware though, that the camp is up around 5,000 feet or so. This means it really does get chilly in the evening, so dress appropriately i.e., bring a jacket!

We loved the Lemala camps and would recommend staying there to anyone.

Room Tip: Bring a jacket, as the nights can get nippy!

“Fantastic end to a long day”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2011

In all honesty, we had a fairly dissapointing game drive in the crater and were a little down when we arrived here.

We were greeted warmly by the manager with juice and hot towels. He went through the check-in and then we were shown to our tent.
It was great...a big comfy bed...a nicely appointed bathroom and a nice area for sitting.
We had to order a time for our showers as the water had to be warmed. This sounds a little basic but in fact, the temperature of the water was fantastic.

There were drinks by a roaring fire where all guests could meet. we were a little hamprered as we ended up being the only english speakers there, but it was nice all the same.

A communal dinner was served, which was lovely. Then a small walk back to the tent. It ws our honeymoon and the camp had arranged for a bottle of champagne on our return to the tent, which is a great touch.

An even better touch is the hot water bottles in the bed.

Even though we were under canvas, we had a perfect nights' sleep and were refreshed for breakfast and and the day ahead.

Also important was the fact that the packed lunch from here was superb.

If you are in the Crater area, i can't imagine there is a better place to stay
