This cozy hotel is tucked away in nature, which is perfect if you are out on a nature trip to Ranomafana National Park in Madagascar. The park is run by Madagacar National Parcs( see www.parcs-madagascar.com for fees and other information). The hotel has cabanas which are pretty basic but fine...The pool is pretty though it was too cold to swim in June. The restaurant and bar have been refurbished recently, the food is decent though portions are a bit small. I made one mistake to order river prawns, which are very difficult nad really hard work to eat. Other meals were good. We had brought our own wine to accompany our meals.
The park itself is great, it is not a place where Lemurs jump on your head and shoulders like Vakuna, this is really wild and you'll have to walk with a guide to find the animals. After a few hours we had seen most of the lemur species, the tiny chameleons and huge spiders.

In the village itself there are hot water baths but we could not bring ourselves to go in. Ranomofana - which means hot water - used to be a thermal village where you could do spas and treatment but this is now definately faded glory which only vague remind of good old times.

The room was like an old shed, concrete floors with no rugs, no bedside light, lumpy mattress and pillows smelt damp, felt damp and cold - the sun in June doesn't shine on Domain Nature. Food and service very mediocre, restaurant was apparently being rebuilt over the road so there was no socialising with other guests, because there were no other guests. Advised not to use the swimming pool as it was too cold but also a dirty bottom!

Only plus was that on the second day we had a few flowers in the bathroom. Well done that chambermaid.

There is a lot of climbing in Ranomafana- in the rainforest but also in this hotel - from the road to the reception and restaurant and then again to the lovely wooden chalets- full of nature - geckos, chameleon, wasp nests and the rat in the bathroom.
While we were there the receptionand restaurant was being rebuilt and the chef did extremely well in the temporary kitchen

The swimming pool could be a little warmer

we prepaid for a room for 3 nights, drove 11.5 hours to get there from Tana, only to be told that the hotel was full for the 3 nights and the room had been let to someone else. They offered for us to stay at Ihary hotel which is in the middle of the noisy town and well below the standard of Domaine Nature. There were at least 3 other guests who had the experience at the same time and were shuffled to Ihary! Since it was 8pm we opted to have dinner at DN and were served tepid food which led to upset stomachs that night.
