We were filled with trepidation finding out that Hilton Caracas no longer existed and that the socialist government had taken over the hotel. Interesting that Hilton and other hotel websites misrepresented the hotel as being "under renovation" when in reality, Hilton was losing its lease. Nothing looked renovated and nothing was under renovation during our one week stay there.
Lobby, room, elevators, bathroom, pool, restaurants were all acceptable and clean. Bedroom and bathroom showed particular wear and tear - broken window handles and chipped tiles. Clean, white new towels with ALBA proudly carved out of the terry cloth. Housekeeping was exceptional as was room service. Small fridge in hotel room was great for drinks and food storage, as was the in-room safety deposit box.
Reception and concierge were "hit and miss" - dependent on who you spoke with. There seemed to be a lot of manpower but nothing was done efficiently. Internet cafe on site was reasonable, NOT linked to Alba internet. Cheaper internet cafes in mall nearby with supermarket to buy basic drinks/food.
SAFETY : We has been alerted that the hotel was not in the best part of town, as such we stayed vigilant and never walked out at night. Cabs to and from restaurants directly. Daytime ventures out seemed safe enough. Travel agent on site was helpful with tours and hiring of a driver/tour guide.
