We stayed 10 nights and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. There's quite a wide range of posada experiences you can find in Los Roques and this place is probably at the top end of what you can get on the island.
In essence it's a B&B that provides ensuite bedrooms with a communal dining area. There's a roof terrace that has hammocks and seats but most guests tend to use the ground floor seating or their own rooms. The web site photos are accurate, so if you're happy with that level of accomodation/service then this place is ideal.
Our room was functional, with a solid bed and separate bathroom. Hanging space was limited, but for this part of the world the dress code is so casual it hardly matters. In the bathroom the water seemed to be heated by solar power, so its usually cold-ish showers in the morning. It took us a couple of days to adapt, but after that we hardly noticed this. The bedrooms are windowless with panels and latticed sky lights that open up onto an open air corridor to allow in fresh air. All rooms have a/c units to keep the temperature down.
As most of the guests are Italian you'd expect the quality of the cooking to be good and in this respect the posada exceeded our expectations. What they produce from a small kitchen adjacent to the communal dining room is remarkable both in quality and size for something in this price range. Food is generally served on large platters, so you can help yourself to as much as you want. Dinners included lots of classic Italian dishes and fresh fish every day. However, it's the service that really makes this place stand out, with nothing being too much trouble for Mario and his team.
The posada offers a 'full board' experience, with breakfast, a packed lunch and evening dinner all part of the deal - including wine, beer and soft drinks. The daily routine is very much an 'early rise, early to bed' type of thing. Breakfast is at 8.15am, and dinner around 7.30pm most days. The posada has its own boat that takes guests as a group to various locations around the archipelago. However, if you want to do your own thing then Mario can arrange individual boat trips.
In summary it's a lovely place to stay in a wonderful Caribbean location.
