“Spend your money elsewhere”

I called early in the morning and reserved a room for two nights as I had seen the hotel on the internet and like that it had a pool surrounded by a grassy area. It was very appealing to me because I wanted to relax for the last two days of a very exhausting trip in Argentina. We then took the bus from Buenos Aires and arrived two hours later. When we arrived we discovered that their was construction right next to the pool area (we were not informed about this earlier) and we asked if the construction workers would also be there the next day and the person working confirmed that they would not be. We decided to stay even though we had a second option with room available. We were given our room and the worker told us that someone would be there at 4:30 to take our document information so we went for a walk and returned at 4:30 but still no one was there. At 7:00 someone finally arrived and when we went to give our document information, they had given the second night away to someone who had called. My relaxing day turned into walking around for two hours trying to find a hotel room for the next day as our second option was now booked.

The owners and workers of the hotel were unprofessional and had no remorse only excuses for giving our reservation away. It was very hard to get in touch with someone and it’s apparent that they are more concerned with their silver work and museum than their hotel guests. I would spend your money elsewhere because the hotel is not worth the money.

“Fantastic town. Fantastic place to stay. Most lovely family!”

You might do as well if you are lucky but you won't do better than Paradores Draghi in San Antonio de Areco.

The place itself is practically faultless. It is a small, family-run place at the back of the family's silversmith workshop and showroom. It is absolutely central: while you enter from the rear, the front door (to the showroom for their silver and leather goods) opens directly on to the town's main plaza.

The rooms (actually more suites) were spacious, well appointed and very comfortable. There was a hot bath, airconditioner, kitchenette with microwave oven and bar fridge. The bedlinen was clean and creamy. They provided a separate cot for our infant son.

The outdoor areas were likewise kept in immaculate condition with lovely garden full of colourful flowers, pool, sunbeds on the lawn, gorgeous fountain with lilies and fish, lots of birds flitting about (and frogs/toads at night!).

The breakfast was the typical Argentine fare of bread and media lunas with jam, butter, dulce de leche, cheese, tea and coffee etc but better than average because the jams were homemade, there was some cornflakes, (flavoured) yoghurt and fruit too. The breakfast is served in a lovely greenhouse type space (without the plants) filled with light and sun and looking out on the garden.

All of this makes it a 5 star proposition. But the best thing of all is the Draghi family - they are simply lovely! They were so warm and friendly and happy to help. They especially took a shine to our infant son and made him welcome. When we first arrived we were thoughtfully offered and given milk for him (and with the microwave in our suite it was easy to heat for him and then store the leftovers in the fridge) as well as a bit of an afternoon tea for us. We were assisted to do our laundry (which was a matter of desperation for us) and generally made very welcome. They also helped us when we wanted to stay on an extra night but could not stay with them (because they were booked out) to find somewhere else to stay; and later to book our onward travel by bus.

Can't wait to return and say hello!

The Draghi family are great hosts, the rooms are very, very nice, breakfast was good and the location cannot be beat. We really enjoyed our four night stay and El Dia de Tradicion in November, 2011

“You must stay here!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 May 2011

My favourite place on a our trip to Argentina!
this place is a small hotel type bed and breakfast that is run by the amazing Draghi family. It is on a large piece of property in the centre of San Antonio de Areco. The property also has the silversmith workshop where the Draghi family still works to make beautiful silverware. Oh and if that isn't enough there is also a museum as part of this property where we got to take a tour for free because we were guests of the hotel. The Draghi family and the other staff at the hotel were amazing - taking time to talk to us about their culture and their way of life.
The hotel itself is great; centrally located, the breakfast was in the beautiful garden greenhouse and there are plenty of nearby restaurants and bars to go to at night.
If you go to Argentina you should definitely visit San Antonio de Areco if you want an authentic gaucho experience and I highly recommend staying at Paradores Draghi!

“Attention to detail”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 February 2011

My husband and I traveled for 3 weeks in Argentina and Uruguay and stayed at a number of hotels, inns and B and B's. Paradores Draghi was by far our favorite. Ours was not a budget vacation and we stayed at lovely places, but Draghi stands out among them. I believe it's the attention to detail that makes this place special: the beautifully decorated rooms, the stunning courtyard and refreshing pool, the friendly staff, the sweet breakfast nook - everything. Plus the location is great and the price is right. San Antonio de Areco is a charming town and Draghi is a wonderful spot. I highly recommend it!
