“Cheap and cheerful, for £19.00 each what do you expect the Savoy!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2010

Stayed at the Glenfield for one night,ok the outside could do with a tidy up cut back bushes etc.The young local chap on reception was very helpful, the room was a good size, clean bed linen, bathhroom and shower also very clean.we had a continental breakfast in the morning, plenty cereal fruit juice, toaster was a bit temperamental, but apart from that everything was fine. A hotel is a place to put your head down for a night or two,and if the rooms are clean what more do you want, especially at £19.00 each per night!
We are hoping to go back in September and stay again for a night.

“You get what you pay for”

I'd read the reviews on this place before I went, but was pleasantly required. Its bare-bones basic, but what do you expect for £19? The room was in a bit of a 70s time warp, but clean and functional. The bed was comfortable and the manager's a real friendly guy. Let's be honest, you are paying hostel prices, but getting your own room. I've got no complaints for the money and have stayed in worse places costing three times as much. The only thing I would have liked would have been milk and tea bags to go with the kettle, but that's a small gripe. The place itself is in a tatty state and shows signs of having been something more grand in the past, but as I said, it is clean, functional and excellent value if you just want somewhere to get your head down.

“Disgraceful”

Just back from our silver wedding anniversary stay in Ullapool, and appalled at our stay at the Glenfield hotel. Right from the moment we pulled into the carpark we knew it was not going to be what it portrayed on the internet. It is shabby and overgrown, the doors need painting. The reception was a mess, and smelled musty. The room was awful with stained bed linen, curtains hanging off the rails, stains on the walls and scabby old furniture. The mattress was the worst I have ever laid on and I might as well have just settled down onto coiled up wire fencing! the springs were just about through the material. The windows were rotten.

We had advised in advance that we were vegetarians, but struggled to get anything decent for breakfast even though we had paid for full breakfasts. On day 2 the only hot food we could get was toast as, even though breakfast had been on only 30 mins, they had run out of beans!! We noticed that the receptionist was also the waiter and worked in the kitchen. The room service we got consisted only of new coffee cups put on the tray and we wondered, although we didnt see them, if that was the receptionist's job too!

We tried to get other accommodation but everywhere was fully booked up, apart from the Caledonia, but as that is the sister hotel of the Glenfield, we didnt try there.

Please, please dont be fooled by the internet website. Oxford Hotels should be ashamed that they provide such a poor experience. It is a dreadful embarrasment to Scottish tourism, and please do not stay there.

“Lovely surroundings - Good Service”

When we booked by phone we were advised that there were no double rooms but we could have two single rooms at no extra cost. Having booked we checked reviews and they were not very encouraging. On arrival we found the staff friendly and helpful. We also found the rooms though small comfortable and clean. We also found dinner on first night surprisingly good. We did encounter a problem with the keys of one of the rooms which was dealt with by management and we were given a complimentary glass of wine for inconvience. Our overall view of our stay in hotel was value for money. Although there were shorcomings such as not a well stocked bar, The staff were at all times helpful, polite and friendly. Both myself and my wife would return to this hotel with every confidence shortcomings will be addressed.

“Avoid at all costs!”

For one night I had to endure the Glenfield Hotel experience, I would not wish a stay in this hotel on anyone. First and foremost, the staff here are incompetent could not care less about your stay. The outdated exterior looks like a crumbling Soviet era housing block. The shabby interior is from when Margret Thatcher was still Prime Minsiter. Our three course meal was over-priced, pre-prepared garbage and the waiters had no idea what the threadbare bar had to offer. Do not give this hotel any more custom it is a disgrace to Scotland.
