“A good place to stay.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2011

This is a farily standard place made good by the staff. Politely greeted and well served thoughout my stay despite the the place being really busy. And although the room wasn't the type I'd booked, and it smelled like a jock strap when I walked into the gloom of low-energy bulbs, it was spacious with a good shower (but I heard another resident compaining at breakfast so I might have stolen her pressure!).

The food is good pub fare. Far from gormet, but so are the prices: fair do's.

Room Tip: Not room 18 which is above the kitchen.

“Comfortable, quiet, traditional hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2011

This is a nice hotel in a lovely part of Scotland and a handy stop over for the Northern Ireland ferries. We had a spacious very reasonably priced room. The breakfast was good although the pop music radio in the restaurant did spoil the traditional Scottish character of the hotel.

“Eager to return!”

To be fair, we only drank here one Saturday evening (13th Aug) during our holiday but just had to shout about the cleanliness, friendliness and comfort of this place!

Staff couldn't be any friendlier, especially the young man behind the bar who went out of his way to make my 7 year old's visit pleasurable by fetching over crayons, colouring sheets, dominoes & playing cards! Extremely comfortable atmosphere and warm welcome even though we weren't eating. The food looked very reasonably priced & looked & smelt great. There were plenty of people eating here, including locals which is surely a good sign?

We will certainly be returning to eat & drink here on our next trip to Newton Stewart & look forward to same welcome, service & friendliness.

“Excellent hotel and friendly service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 August 2011

The staff were friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them. We were even given a room in which to store our motorcycle gear after we had checked out. The rooms were spacious, nicely decorated, clean and comfortable. The hotel also has its own private car park. The town is very picturesque with lots of shops and restaurants. We liked everything about the hotel and the town and have nothing at all negative to say about either.
