Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

Bake House, Harwich
Fantastic place on two level's, clean tidy and done out really well with the decor etc loved the hot tub great idea. Paul the owner was a great help when required. Only 2 small things was could do with was a fan in the bedroom as it got quite hot on couple of nights and bed mattered was little uncomfortable but other than that fully recommend from us both.

Loved it
Lovely accomodation. Everything you need for a home away from home. Fully equipped kitchen, washing machine, tv, not forgetting the hot tub! Perfect hosts allowed you privacy, but available when needed. It is in a quiet town with beaches in easy walking distance. Also some great local history to discover. This was great for a mini-break.

Comfortable and convenient.
A really nice place, very comfortable with all of the amenities, including a hot tub (which we didn't use on this occasion). Conveniently placed with on-street parking. A few minutes walk from the local sites, beach and local hostelries. We rather enjoyed the roof terrace, especially at the end of the day, very nice. Would most definitely use them again.

Hot tub was the best thing about this place
We stayed here for 4 days its a nice little place which has everything you need us tv had netflix and prime which was a bonus. The hot tub was the reason we booked as my husband loves them and we weren't disappointed it was fab we used every day. The negatives are the banisters on stairwell are loose and steps steep, the bed was quite uncomfortable and very creaky every time you moved which woke you up, the shower room was nice but the shower went hot and cold permanently which was a nightmare. With regards to the area it is very quiet with not really anything going on there are a couple of nice pubs to eat within walking distance but that's it really. It's quite a run down area harwich with not alot going for it we would not return to harwich for a holiday. Paul the owner was very accommodating and was there at any time to help if there were any issues.

Hi Donna, so sorry that you was not completely satisfied with your stay at Bakehouse, glad you was pleased with the main features of the accommodation. The Bakehouse is a Grade 2 listed Victorian building and its typical of its period, with if you are not used to it the stairs may appear steeper than a modern design, unfortunately we have to live with them. The shower can be sensitive however not had any other negative feedback since. The mattress was a recent purchase and we went for mid to firm to be suitable for most people. Amidst the Covid period a lot of the venues and attractions was only running a basic level of service however Old Town living is not for everyone, but everyone who lives here loves it and as can been seen on many of the other guest reviews, they said they had a lovely time in the Old Town. If you decide to visit North Essex we have other properties with various attractions that I could give you a good deal to sweeten the issues.

a great base from which to explore
I used the property as a base to explore Essex for our honeymoon. We were able to visit Constable country in Dedham Vale and seaside resorts like Clacton and have a secure, safe base - WITH A HOT TUB!!! - to return to, with convenient parking. The owner Paul was very helpful and friendly and we are trying to think of excuses to return!

Perfect place to stay
The Bake House is the perfect place to stay. It is very homely and has everything you could want. It is ideally located for the town centre and harbour. There are plenty of interesting things to see and do and close to the beach.

Superior
The bake house is perfectly located, clean, well equipped and very comfy. It has everything one needs to relax, cook, sleep or watch telly. There are many pubs and some restaurants within a 5 minute walk, even more about a 15 minute walk away. A bus stop is around the corner and as far as I can tell there is always a parking space in front of the door. I can really recommend it!

Lovely bijou pad in Old Harwich
Old Harwich is an interesting own on the up. The Bakehouse is an ideal retreat to stay, well equipped and comfortable. Try the Alma Pub and the Beacon Hill Fort has recently opened to the public

Family reunion
We traveled to Harwich to look out family as my father was from Harwich and had met my mum whilst he had been evacuated to Shropshire he came back but they married and he moved up to Shropshire. The Bake house was ideal for us comfy bed and good amenities. It was clean and welcoming with free parking on the street and Central to Harwich. Paul was excellent with any queries even checking with us that we had arrived and everything was good.
