“Outstanding”

Happily we were the only residents on the night we stayed, so we were offered the best room at no extra cost. Having eaten here before, we knew how good the food could be, but I would say that they have improved even further...........it was outstanding.

They weren't busy, but it was a Tuesday in January, and the promotion that they run at this time of year was not advertised well due to new ownership. Fortunately this meant that we also got exceptional service from the none too busy, but very friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was the cherry on the icing on the cake!

“Fabulous”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2011

We stayed at The Museum after a recommendation from a friend and it was wonderful! The food was delicious and was equally as good as our visit to the Chewton Glen the week before. The room was a delight with nice touches such as home made biscuits, high quality bathroom products and an amazingly comfortable bed It is quite pricey but the whole experience, the food, surroundings and in particular the staff made it a throughly special experience.

“Disappointed no atmosphere average!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2011

So very disappointed the place has no atmosphere. Food was average no wow factor & trying to be top end, why don't these wonderful old places go back to good traditional honest food and leave it to the big boys! The staff were pleasant, barman looked as though everything was hard work, would not return as we have found this to be another souless gastro pub without the pub!

“Disappointed”

I am posting a review because I am so disappointed with our stay at The Museum Inn.

In addition we wrote to the Museum inn after our stay and haven't even had an acknowledgement of our issues or a response. We have even sent a follow up e-mail and still no response. Not good enough!

Stay 8th October 2011
We booked this night away back in April as it came highly recommended. Two days pior to our stay I received a phone call informing me that the restaurant would not be available and that we could eat in either the bar area or the cottage.
I explained that this was a night away for us and what would they recommend, we were recommended the cottage area.
On being seated at the table it seemed apparent that the table had been ill positioned with regard to the window seat. The window seat was far too high for anyone sitting there to eat comfortably. With regard to the seat my husband was given it was far too low and was not comfortable to eat at. We asked for the table to be moved so that another chair could be used so at least we could be at a similar level. A chair was provided.

In the area we were seated were a large family and the noise was incredible, we could hardly hear ourselves. Given that I had explained that this was a special night away for us I found it difficult to comprehend the recommendation made by the staff.

I complained to the duty manager and she apologised and offered to give us our wine on the house. We made it very clear that if we had known in advance the actual surroundings we would have cancelled our stay.

The food was alright - however my husband's pork was served with enough mash to feed three people. My vension was a two type dish. One was lovely the other not.

The room was very small. The double bed was small and the wardrobe was a little cupboard in the bathroom.

We were deeply disappointed with the whole experience especially given that the following morning we had our breakfast in the restaurant area and therefore cannot understand why it was not possible to dine there the night before.

“Not very good”

I have never posted a review on Trip Advisor before but am compelled to do so as we really disliked this place so much.

We stayed at The Museum, whose website makes it out to be a hotel, it is really a restaurant with some rooms attached, as a part of our Summer trip to the west-country. We were looking forward as the lady with whom we booked with on the phone was very nice. We were told we would have a four poster bed. When we arrived the four poster bed room was apparently not available and we were put into what I can only describe as a shoddily converted stables block at the end of the car park. The room was tacky and not very clean. Our supper is best described as pretentious, overpriced and not that good in our oppinion.

We have stayed in hotels all over the world, large and small – this place is arrogant, paroquial and really overpriced for what you get. We confrointed the owner when we were ther and he seemed to just shrug his shoulders about our comments.
