On arrival at the white Hart we discovered there was no parking available. We parked at a public car-park a few minutes walk away( uphill, my husband is a disabled driver). We were not peturbed by the lack of parking, however, thought it sensible to ask whether we were able to get a weekly parking pass, for the car-park (which without one would be £7 per day and require us to feed the machine daily). The owner was clearly put out at being asked and was clearly agitated. She did however confirm, we could get a weekly ticket which would save our legs and cost half as much, we were delighted. This sorted, we began to unpack our car and to our astonishment the owner ( who gave the impression of being very 'stuck up') Went off on what could only be described as a rant, the content of which is too long to state here however we were told ' i dont know what your problem is, £7 a day is hardly expensive' 'You should expect that in a seaside town' ' you should try living in london' etc etc. We both listened in disbelief as her manner was now confrontational. I reminded the owner that we had not complained of anything yet and had merely asked a sensible question which, as an accomodation owner, she should be used to answering! I then reminded her that she should have perhaps informed us at the time of booking that no parking was available, however, again, we wernt really that bothered. To our horror she stated'perhaps you should to go back to where you came from' At this we both knew there was no way we could stay with this women and asked for our deposit back, she reluctantly handed us a cheque which she has since cancelled!!!!!
We travel a lot and it never ceases to amaze me how many' non people' persons work in the tourist industry!! We got new accomodation and on searching in the tourist board discovered that 90% of SC acomodation in this area has private parking. As for the cheque, she can keep it she is in clearly more need.
