On the 9th of September we, my walking pal and I, walked The Limestone Link (Arnside to Kirby Lonsdale). The walk was great and we needed replenishment on reaching Kirby Lonsdale. We are, and are known as, The Four Season Quaffers’ Walking Club. A unique and discerning brotherhood who enjoy ale and food of the finest quality and aren’t afraid of prices as long as the said ale and food are at their best.
We arrived in the centre of Kirby Lonsdale at 15:45, tried an ale in The Red Dragon and then moved for a beer to The Snooty Fox. We were greeted warmly and we ordered two pints of Timothy Taylor Landlord; as it was being pulled it looked indifferent in the foaming; the head didn’t stay and the smell was musty, which a sip proved! The taste was metallic and it drew our mouths’. The beer cost £6.20 and it was a complete waste! We put the un-drunk beers on the bar and left. I know that we should have complained, but we needed to find our B&B and freshen-up, so we voted with our feet and we won’t be returning. If you’re a real ale fancier I would certainly recommend that you give this a miss and try The Orange Tree, The Red Dragon or The Sun, all have excellently presented and quaffable ales and at cheaper prices!
We left Kirby Lonsdale on the morning of the 10th of September and took the bus to Lancaster whence a local man sat beside us and having held a conversation with him, telling him that we tried a ‘certain establishment’ without giving-away the name of the offending pub, he immediately said “oh, you mean The Snooty Fox do you?’ It’s known for its poor ales, the locals don’t drink there so that tells you something?” Unquote! Traveller beware!!

I and my partner went for a meal here with 2 locals who said that the pub was under new management and said that we should try it sat down wasnt told that you had to order food at the bar sat down with drinks 2 meals came out I had ordered a vegi meal and a meat meal came then a further 2 meals came well they had all surely been cooked and microwave all day my vegi meal came and it was foul we didnt want to complain as we was too embarrased my partner called and spoke to the manager told her what had happened and she just said ok and that was that !!!!! I love this place been 3 times this year, the new menu was great cooked to perfection and i am hard to please.Some would say its creeky and old in the hotel but thats what makes the place its a old building.I could tell it had new owners as lots of things have changed for the better i must add.
My only complaint was coming home after a great weekend,thanks to everyone at the snooty fox,see you soon.

Stayed here for one night as part of a weekend away. As others have said, this is a tavern and does what it says on the tin. If you like taverns, and we do, its definitely worth considering.
On the plus side: nice and friendly staff, good, freshly cooked breakfast, decent beer, spacious car park, big bedroom (room 3).
Down sides: bedroom 3 has the squeakiest floor I have ever encountered. The ensuite door is also really squeaky (not great in the middle of the night!). These things can be forgiven as its an old building. However, as others have mentioned, the shower room leaves quite a lot to be desired and requires an upgrade. The temperature knob comes away in your hand, so actually getting the water to the required temperature is an artform in itself. The shower head is at such a strange angle that you really need to hold it to get best use from it - not very handy. Toiletries are provided, but come in such strangely shaped bottles, that actually getting the contents out of the bottle was a challenge to say the least..! Also the bed in the room is a double, not a king size. The room is large so a kingsize would easily fit. As we are used to a king size, we found the double a bit small.
If you feel the pluses make up for the shower room, and you dont mind a double bed then definitely consider staying here. But definitely do go to enjoy a decent beer, and stay somewhere else. We were told room 3 is their best one, which given the shower room and the bed, did put us off staying there again, although we would pop in for a drink.
