“ABSOLUTELY MAGICAL!!!!!!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

I was blown away when I stayed here by the location, stunning grounds, beautiful hotel, very friendly staff, the food, the AMAZING room and luxury spa!!
As we drove up towards Danesfeild Hotel I couldn't believe my eyes 'STUNNING'!!!!
We checked in and the very well presented staff where extremely welcoming and helpful!
Are room was gorgeous with stunning views. We headed to the spa where we enjoyed a relaxing lunch and pool time before we all enjoyed a Danesfield Triliogy massage. Then we went back to our room for champagne.
We enjoyed the delicious tasting menu in the michelin star restaurant!
In the morning we had a fantastic breakfast in the orangery over looking the gardens in the sunshine. Then we had a long leisurely stroll around the grounds before we went home!
I cannot wait to stay again!! It was ABSOLUTELY MAGICAL!!

“Beautiful room, fantastic dinner and friendly and professional service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

My husband treated me to a weekend pack comprising overnight stay, continental breakfast, 3 course dinner in the orangery and a spa treatment. Our welcome at reception was warm and friendly and much to our delight we were given a complimentary upgrade to an executive room (311/Fawley). We were escorted to our room by the concierge who had the right balance of professionalism and friendliness. The room was gorgeous and overlooked the perfectly manicured gardens and river beyond. I have to say that it is one of the largest (c18ft x 13ft) and nicest rooms I have ever stayed in. We had dinner in The Orangery - the food and service were first class. Breakfast was also lovely although we opted for items from the cooked menu which were chargeable (always disappointing that you have to pay extra). After this we went to the spa - that wing of the hotel and the spa lobby area is a little dated and in need of an upgrade, however the spa treatments themselves and my therapist Denise were great.

Overall, our stay was fantastic and I will definitely return. Stay in room 311 if you want to be guaranteed a beautiful room!

Room Tip: 311 Fawley. Large, overlooking the gardens and river.

“One of the best visits ever - Mother and Daughter weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

We booked a dinner, bed and breakfast deal through a third party as this was much cheaper than booking with the hotel direct. Bit odd as their website says "Best available rates guaranteed" as this was definitely not the case!
I have been visiting Danesfield for many years now and was married there in 2010 so I am very well aware of how the experience can fluctuate from time to time. That said, I think apart from my wedding, this has to have been one of the best visits ever. Check-in was reasonably prompt despite there only being one member of staff who was already dealing with another guest. Another staff member was available, but chose to walk off to deal with something else even though she could see me waiting. I was still waiting by the time she came back and she fetched a gentleman to check us in. If I was being picky, I think it would have been nice to have been acknowledged as a frequently returning guest of many years, but never mind!
Our room was one of the courtyard rooms on the ground floor and was a good size and was clean apart from the very old metal window frames which were mouldy. I suppose this can't be helped in such an old building, but it didn't look very nice when we pulled back the curtain. Other than that we were very pleased to see the addition of a tea tray in the room which has been a very long time coming and has previously only been available on request and at a charge. Our chilled Champagne was waiting for us as per the deal we had booked which was great.
The Spa was very busy as usual on a Saturday afternoon, but we just waited until it got quieter later on and it was lovely. There were some children in the pool when we first arrived, but they are only allowed in until 5pm after which point they left.
We had a 3 course dinner in the Orangery which was fully staffed for the first time ever. The service was absolutely brilliant and good humoured. We were a bit concerned that we might be forgotten as has happened in previous times when we have been seated at the far end of the Orangery, but not a bit of it! The food was delicious and HOT which was also a massive improvement on some previous visits. The portions are small, but very good and it makes having 3 courses possible! We had some help from a lovely member of staff when we couldn't choose a bottle of wine and that was lovely too. We retired to the Grand Hall after dinner to finish our wine, but it was absolutely freezing which was a real shame. There was a fire, but it was so small and behind such a massive fire guard that the room didn't benefit from it at all.
We were disturbed first thing in the morning by the very noisy heating system which I suppose you have to expect with such an old building, hence the "average" sleep rating. We had a lovely cooked to order English Breakfast in the lovely Adam Simmonds restaurant which you normally have to pay for, but was also part of this deal. We did have to wait a bit, but nothing outrageous and it was well worth it. We noted that although breakfast finishes at 10pm, lots of guests arrived between 9.50 and 10.00 am and were still given the best possible treatment.
We had to challenge our bill at reception as we had been charged £67 for somebody else's bar bill, but that was sorted out very quickly and highlighted by the bill that was already under our door in the morning. Express check out is now available which is a plus as reception is tiny and everybody checks out at the last minute as nobody wants to leave! I, for my part, am always one of those!
As a word of warning, do watch your speed on the road out of Marlow towards Danesfield (A4155). This is a 30 mile an hour zone and there are absolutely no signs even when you are outside of the town. Don't have your visit to Danesfield ruined by a meeting with a policeman and a radar gun!

“Silver Wedding Anniversary”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

On Saturday 27 August 2011 my wife and I celebrated our 25th Wedding Anniversary and decided to treat our friends to Private Dinning at the Danesfield Hotel, Marlow. With the aid of Madeliene Furness and her colleague Kate the arrangements were made. Even a hitch with the menus was swiftly addressed and resolved personally by Adam Simmonds who guided my wife through a private tasting of the proposed menu including the selected wines.
We were lucky enough to be able to book the Adam Simmonds Room, which was beautiful.
We could not have asked for more, the staff and setting was absolutely perfect, and nothing was too much trouble to the staff in attendance. Our sincere thanks to George and colleagues who looked after us and our guests all evening and in particular Tim who looked after my wife since I was unable to accompany her to the private tasting and is a wonderful ambassador for the Danesfield Hotel. “Nice weekend spa break.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

From checking in to checking out the staff were second to none.

We booked a Stay and Dine break and also used the complimentary on site Spa facilities.

All in all it was a very pleasant stay, although a few things explained why the Hotel doesn't make the 5 Star rating. This is a shame as it is so close. The down stairs bar and hall areas were very cold. Despite a large open fire in the Great Hall it never became much more than a pile of embers over the two days we were there. The restaurant was in the Orangery which was also cold which was a shame for the evening meal, especially as there wasn't a warm bar or roaring fire to retire to after.

The dining had it's ups and downs. The evening meal was excellant with good service. Breakfast on the Monday was equally as good. Breakfast on Sunday greatly let down the dining experience. I except busy times but we had to wait well over an hour for our Full English to arrive and when it did it was a disappointment, especially being able to compare with Monday.

The bedroom was in character with the building but very clean and comfortable, the bathroom well thought out, good in decor, function and amenities.

One minor let down which was no fault of the hotel was Sunday afternoon in the Grand Hall. There was a large non resident group of people with unruly children running around the room, throwing cushions etc, spoiling the ambience of the place.

The house and grounds are lovely with nice views of the Thames and country side, with an interesting history to boot.

To conclude, tries hard but could do better. An aspiration could be to have the Luton Hoo as its big brother.
