This hotel is really quite a gem. The rooms are immaculate and cozy, making you feel a bit like you're in a lodge or chalet, with wood floors and ceilings, exceptionally comfortable beds and all of the odds and ends that you need in a good room. The bathroom was pristine, and the tub perfect for a good soak. The breakfast consisted of a huge spread: assorted meats and cheeses, cereals, breads, yogurt, fresh fruits, hot drinks, juices, etc. And once you're finished with breakfast, the hotel's enviable location is perfect for exploring the medieval town.
I had picked up a rather nasty cold on my way to Fribourg, and by our second night, I was so sick I was bedridden. The hotel staff arranged for food to be brought to our room, and they also fished out some English language videos for my son to enjoy while I was recovering. It is never a good thing to get sick while traveling, but the staff at the Hotel de la Rose made every effort to make it as comfortable as possible.

Good location, attractive building, but front-facing rooms suffer from very bad traffic noise. We slept OK, realising that this is a town-centre hotel, but not everyone may share this attitude. Room was furnished to a very high standard, with the bathroom being particularly good. Staff friendly and professional.

Very nice large rooms with large bathrooms. And it's great to stay in a hotel hundreds of years old (of course updated), but it's located on a very busy intersection and so was noisy. One guide recommended asking for a room in the back but those were all taken. I guess people ask for those ahead of time. It also was very hot in the room and the hotel indicated that they knew there was a problem with those rooms during the hottest days of summer and found us a fan. There's a bar below the hotel and some of the noise came from there, not just the traffic. However, this was during the world cup and so some of that noise may not have been typical. The staff were exceptionally helpful -- loaning umbrellas, helping with directions, instructing us on how much to tip at restaurants (all is included but people tend to expect an extra 5% if the service was good.) I don't think I'd stay here again though I hear from others who attended the conference I was at that the other hotels were not great. So, maybe we would stay there again because Fribourg is really worth a trip! It's a beautiful town, really beautiful.
