My boyfirend and myself have just returned from a stay at the Casablanco at the end of July for a week in room 4, and we were joined by our friend for the weekend in room 5.
The Hotel in right in the centre of lovely Tarifa, with views onto the bustle of the street below.
We loved the decor of the Casablanco Hotel, it has a very serene, cool feel, with a water feature in the atrium, bamboo in pots and stone stairs up to the rooms. The staff were very polite.
Our room was one of the rooms mentioned in other reviews with the bed above the bathroom up a ladder. We weren't told in advance we would have this room, but I took heed on another reviewers' advice and wore shoes up the ladder so didn't hurt my feet!
The room was nicely decorated and had everything needed including a small fridge. The shower was really powerful which was great after a day at the beach.
Our room was on the first floor and although there was hustle and bustle on the street below, we couldn't hear it when we closed the windows and shutters at night. There wasn't any air con, but we don't usually put it on if a hotel has it anyway and there was a little free standing fan in the room on the floor which we managed to angle at the high bed at night.
The only major downside was really the bed. It consisted of a thin mattress, on top of reinforced glass over the bathroom. The mattress was so thin that by the morning of the second day my back was in agony. We asked to be moved to another room with a proper bed and thicker mattress to be told that the hotel was full, and as the rest of the hotels in Tarifa were booked up we decided to stick it out.
Our Friend arrived on the Thursday, and was in room 4, on the second floor, a lovely room with a big 4 poster bed, but again, after her first nights sleep, on a very thin mattress she was stiff.
I ended up sleeping on the sofa by the end of the holiday ( not very romantic!)
I did see into a couple of the other rooms and they had proper thick mattresses so I'm not sure why some rooms do and some don't have them. ( room 1 has a thick one if you are thinking of booking!) I spoke to the receprionist again at the end of the stay to let her know how unconfortable it was, but she said that all beds in Spain are like this. None of the other beds I have ever stayed in whilst in Spain have been like this.
So if you are thinking of staying at the Casablanco, it would be great if you like VERY hard beds, but the rest of the hotel experience was positive.
