I have just got back from a weeks break in Fuengirola. I would definately go back again, even though this was a low season break. A lot of places had closed down for the winter but there are still lots of cafes and restaurants and bars open until late at night. You can find English places if thats what you prefer but there are still lots of Spanish places which seem to be untouched by English influence. The beach is lovely with lots of sand for the children to play on. You can get a good view from the castle over the town and the beaches. Fuengirola is surrounded by mountains and sometimes the peeks are hidden in cloud. The weather was very good whilst there although quite windy at times. We got a train to Torremolinos which cost only 2 Euros return. The taxi service can be a bit expensive but if you ask for a price before you take a ride then you will know what you be paying, some drivers charge more or less even though they seem to have the same taxi company. For good food eating out I recommend Moochers. The manager is English but the food is terrific with a very friendly service and entertainment every night. Fish Alley is the place to go to for all the restaurants. A short walk from there down to the beach there is The London Pub, Danny the owner is English and a really helpful and friendly man. I have to say all the English out there were all very friendly and all very socialable. Along the beach there are lots of Africans selling fake sunglasses, belts, handbags, watches and cds. They come into restaurants and cafes whilst you are eating and drinking which was very annoying, but if you ignor them or just say no, they are not rude they just go away. But one afternoon whilst having lunch in a cafe the Africans were coming in at 1 every minute. You will also see beggars with dissabilities. They all take no for an answer and dont cause any harm, so dont let this put you off. At the marina there are lots of sea food restaurants and places to eat but these are hidden down below so you need to get down to dry docks part before you know they are there. The police dont speak English very well at all, and when we lost our camera it was extremely hard trying to get a report for the insurance company. There are 3 police stations all within walking distance of each other. The town was very clean, road sweepers were out every day, and they washed the streets very often as well. We found a very friendly bar caled The Toon bar. This was close to Fish Alley. In there they had 3 tvs all tuned into football. Great for the supporters. The drinks were very cheap and the service was excellent. The staff there were very welcomng. it was one of our most visited pubs. If you get the chance to go to Fuengirola i think you will like it, I think its suitable for all ages and families.
