We stayed here 16 Oct 2011 for a week - husband, self and 12 year old son. 3 bedded corner room on 11th floor overlooking pool, balcony quite big, room seemd spacious. Bathroom very spacious - bath with shower and walk-in shower, toiletries etc. TV had lot of English channels. Great views over town and harbour/marina. Fridge in room great for storing sandwich making stuff - we shopped at local supermarket and even found some Valor chocolate! Hotel very nice if geared to older holiday makers, but my son had a good time. Food - wide selection, sometimes needed hotting up in microwave. Sat by pool in afternoons while son swam. We had a free go in the spa pools (not for children). On a Thomson Platinum package (our first), Natalie our rep was excellent even though had injured back. Evening entertainment was entertaining - not always to our specific taste but there were some good singers. Did not go downstairs to see what going on there. One drawback was time of our arrival meant we didn't want/get food (very late eve) and had to purchase our evening meal (albeit at a very reduced rate) on our last day as we had a late evening flight home.
About 15 min walk from Tourist information, bus station and train station. Husband and son visited Zoo for a morning while I mooched. Did not get to Castle, Corte Inglese, or markets - were warned to beware pickpockets.
Weather very good until end of week when we had spectacular thunder storms and rain. Visited Gibraltar for afternoon tea trip which we all enjoyed; trip to Marbella/Porto Banus a wash out but did visit shopping mall in Marbella instead. Husband a bit disappointed with promenade compared to Benidorm. Went on bus to large shopping centre near castle in Fuengirola. Realised it is more of a working town than Benidorm, so not a lot of hotels, but very interesting. Great supermarkets big and small, good fruit. Would do the boat trip to Benalmadena next time. Visited cafes on marina in evenings and for morning drinks on our first day when exploring. Beaches are darker sand than we are used to, so can look grubby. Were told about beach opposite Yaramar but did not use it - about 10/15 min walk along promenade - can see Yaramar from panoramic lifts.
My son wants to go back! We would say give it a try - its a typical Spanish hotel trying to cope with British visitors. Staff are pleasant and keen to help (but take a dictionary!)
