Listen, in a 5 star hotel everything is perfect, in a 4 star everything works, in a 3 star bits and pieces don't work. Veramar is 3 star and good value at that.
"Basic" means something else - not a fully tiled bathroom, ensuite with bidet. Kitchen is small and clean (specially if you clean up after yourself!), yes there is no oven - and who needs a toaster??
Go out to eat there are great restaurants in Fuengirola - Sizzlyns, Marina Bar, Poncho's, Aroma , Las Viandas (there is a list on Trip Advisor) Fuengiola is fab. Watch the climate though! when it rains it is relentless (not the hotels fault). I liked the location.
Stay at home whingers if you cannot take it! Take my tip, 2 good reviews cancels a bad one on TA.

Before i booked the hotel, I've reed lots of negatives opinion, but my budget was small, so I booked it anyway. What a surprise we've got when we go there : rooms was clean, no flea (as some of the reviews was shouting), clean bathroom, small kitchen with everything you may need on holiday (just no bottle opener ;) the beds was fine, even the balcony with table and chairs. Never went to the pool - just prefer the beach , wasn't big but seems clean, it was few minutes walk to the beach, one minute to the nearest shop, and fantastic Spanish tapas bar - with great Spanish breakfasts just across the street, also lots of small local bars around with lovely people, only few minutes walk to the main bar and restaurant center. We really like it , and we like Fuengirola, so whenever we go there again - the Veramar will be our choice again.

We stayed here in August 2010 for 3 nights and having only paid £116 we were optimistic to what we were going to arrive too. The hotel is very dated, but liveable. We had a kettle and a selection of utensils BUT for a self catering hotel we would have hoped to of had a toaster? or even a grill / oven? surely.... but no we got neither of these and was only left with a hob and a microwave.... hmmmm is it me or does that seem a little basic for a self catering hotel?

At night the room gets very hot as you have no air con but you can hire a fan for only 25 euros which gets returned when you give the fan back. The fan DOES make a big difference!!!

Staff are very friendly

The swimming pool was ok but the water is not chlorine, its like sea water..But it is swimmable. Sun beds are limited and need to be updated. You need to remember your towel as the hotel do not allow you to use there's in the pool area.

GOOD POINTS

The supermarket is only ONE minute away!
The car park is free to use ( but is quite small )
The beach is only a 5 minute walk away and only 10 minutes to the restaurants.
Hotel does have internet to use in the lobby
The high floors have a good view of fuengirola

Overall we had an ok time at the Veramar hotel as it is a good base. Only paying £116, it wasnt going to be a Hilton

The hotel is about 6mins walk from the nearest part of the beach and 10mins from the town centre. The room was small and the kitchen was in what would be the hall. It was equiped with a two ring hob, microwave, and kettle, no toaster, a couple of pots & pans. The room was clean beds were hard but that suited us. Cleaning towels twice a week and bedding change every 5 days. Hairdrier available for a 15euro refundable deposit. Small pool and only about 20 loungers around the pool. Staff were helpful and polite. We got a good price and were satisfied with what we got.
