“Good Value for Money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

We stayed in an apartment over the holidays. The place was clea and quiet. Well-equipped with stove, microwave and fridge. We had a living room with integrated kitchen and a separate bedroom. Furthermore, there are a (small) SAT-TV and a heater/aircon.

The hotel offers paddle tennis courts, in- and outdooor playgrounds for kids, a spa, in- and outdoor pools as well as a jacuzzi. There are plenty of parking spaces right in front of the hotel and surrounding the Myramar Mall - just a few steps away. Nearby are also Dunnes Stores and Iceland (cheap grocery with UK products).

However, we would not recommend the hotel for a beach holiday as it is too dangerous to walk (includes highway-crossing). But perfect for people with a rental car or for those willing to ride the bus.

“Boring!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

My husband and I stay here from 19th december 2011 and left on christmas eve. whilst the Hotel its self is very Chic and stylish, it is boring! I know we were out of season, but we have been away at Christmas before and had a wonderful time. Everyone had lap tops so were very unsociable, the hotel provided no entertainment/activities. The highlight of our night was watching Eastenders.. which we dont even watch at home! We were glad to leave! The rooms are dated but very clean, and staff were ok! Some had blank faces others smiled on the odd occassion. Breakfast was very good, dinner not so. As the hotel was only part occupied if you didnt get there in the first half hour of the buffet starting, the food would just sit there warm. Very very bad and could cause major illness. I wouldn't stay here again, even though we visit Fuengirola 3 or 4 times a year.Dissapointed.

“Hotel Fine But food Is Not Great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

Arived on 26.12.11 and got to the front desk to check in and they wanted 100 euro deposit from me which i refused so they said we will deal with that later, but we didn't.

Rooms are clean and spacious. Bathroom as a bath/shower combine plus a walk in shower which was good. Bedroom was 2 single beds which we put together, and wasn't too bad! Massive wardrobe with a lot of hangers. The kitchen was basic but ok as we only had snacks in because we was Half board, it consisted of a microwave, kettle, toaster and 2 hob rings.

Pool bar, outdoor pool and pub was closed during our week but they said because of the weather but compared to the uk weather it was still hot! Indoor pool was ok but you have to wear a swimming cap and the jacuzzi is 5Euro each.

Food in the resturant (Olea) was not great. Breakfast consisted of soft sausages, streaky bacon (under cooked), fried eggs, beans or cereal and cold meats along side of breads.
Evening meals changed on a daily basis but was not great but there was always something to eat, mainly chips.

The beach is about 10/15 min walk.
Shopping centre is 2min walk. (Right next to the hotel)

For food shopping there is Eroski in the shopping centre and Lidl and dunnes across the bridge. We also found an Iceland which was just pass the Lidl, and stocked the same food as at home.

Overall we stay at the hotel again but just not on a half board basis and not out of season.

“Good Hotel with lots of facilities”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

Stayed here with my wife for a xmas break in 2010 it is a large hotel with lots of facilities including indoor pool sauna and jacuzzi and a really good gym.
To use the pool we had to go and buy swimming caps so get one before you go.
Also had to pay seperately for the use of pool/jacuzzi/gym and sauna
The food was not great, large trays of food items on a self service basis.
The hotel is a decent walk of 20-25 mins from beach area however there is a bus stop directly outside the hotel.
Massive shopping complex next door to buy food if you are self catering
Room cleaned every day and room warm throughout the day and night in winter.
Overall a good place to stay but if we went back to the resort we would stay somewhere a little bit closer to the centre as taxis were 7 euros each trip.

“Good, but the food needs some attention”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011

We chose the Myramar Castle Beach Hotel for a modestly priced winter break. We already knew where it was located from previous visits to Fuengirola and we were quite relaxed about this. This is important because it’s location is not going to suit everyone and it could be a disappointment to book this hotel if you are the kind of people who really feel the need to be near the beach or in the middle of a resort.

The hotel is located in a suburban area on the outskirts of town, just beyond the motorway, and save for the hotels own on site bar and restaurants, there are no other ‘tourist’ facilities’ to speak of. Seriously. No mini markets / newsagents / cafés, bars and restaurants. That said, the hotel’s immediate neighbour is the Miramar Parque shopping centre, a very large retail mall, and a destination in it’s own right. It is packed full of chain stores, a Euroski hypermarket, a good number of fast food outlets and a multiplex cinema. It is only a five minute walk away.

Getting into Fuengirola centre is straightforward enough, by foot it is about a 20 minute walk, but there is a very good and reliable half hourly bus service for just 1 Euro each way with a journey time of less than 10 minutes and a bus stop right outside the hotel. For us, we thought the trade off between the slightly out of the way location was generally worth it as we had the benefit of a nicer hotel in a more peaceful location away from the hustle and bustle of the main resort.

The hotel is modern and in good order and the external pool area is particularly well appointed. We never used the indoor pool or the tennis courts but they also appeared to be well kept. Internet terminals are located off the main lobby (costing 1 Euro for 15 minutes).

We had a one bedroom apartment on the top floor (6th) of the main block (block 1) and were perfectly happy with the accommodation. It had a full size fridge, two ring hob, microwave oven, electric kettle, in–room safe and a modest flat screen tv with BBC1, BBC 2, CBBC and Channel 5. ITV1 and ITV2 were available but only until late afternoon when the signal was lost. Other European channels were also available.

One of the nicest features was that the living room and the bedroom both had patio doors out onto the same balcony and it was very spacious in comparison to some other hotels we have stayed in. Perfect for sunbathing during the morning. A word of warning however. If you get a room in block 2 facing the pool, the balcony will be in shadow nearly all the time so try and avoid!.

While the apartment is adequately equipped for self catering, we opted for half board because we prefer to have the certainty of knowing that meals are booked and paid for in advance, and given the current price of food in the shops and in restaurants, this better suited our budgets. Unfortunately, I can’t say that the food was great. It wasn’t bad but it isn’t going to win any awards.

The breakfast was the better of the two meals we booked. Served buffet style, there was a choice of cooked items such as fried eggs, beans, bacon and sausage. This was complimented with cold meats, cereals, fruits and pastries. There was really nothing wrong with what was offered.

Over the course of the week the dinner items included roast chicken, duck, roast pork, lamb chops, various types of fish, stews, a curry, burgers, meatballs and several pastas. There was always something we managed to find to eat but the choices each night were nevertheless a bit limited but more importantly overly repetitive. The salad bar and desert selection were also not particularly extensive or inspiring and proved something of a disappointment. One week of this was just about do-able but I really couldn’t recommend a fortnight.

I think the main problem with the food is the way it is presented and kept warm. The restaurant uses a number of what I believe are know as ‘chafers’. These are steel pans with rolltop lids and the heat is generated underneath. Unfortunately, these managed to keep cooking it until everything soon became dried out and rubbery making it quite unpleasant. If they resolved this I am sure the food would taste so much better. Well, that and adding some salt and some spices! We felt the food was extremely bland, something I would never have associated with mediterranean cuisine.

Would we go back? Yes, if the price was still reasonable, but probably on a B&B basis.
