The house is quietly positioned at the end of a long avenue. The rooms are spacious and private with views over the cattle grazing in the meadow. Our hosts were welcoming and helpful. It was a unique stay given the depth of Irish history contained within its walls.

What I didn’t know before I arrived is that Clonalis is the ancestral home of the O’Conors of Connaught nor did I know the immense history that surrounds the O’Conors.

We were warmly welcomed and shown to our rooms by Mrs. O’Conor Nash. Our room was glorious (our New York apartment would have fit into it!!), its décor included a four poster bed, fabulous antiques, the most stunning furniture and a huge bathroom. The view over the estate was delightful.
We opted to have supper there which was delicious with a great wine selection which wasn’t too expensive. Both dinner and breakfast was served in the dining with fabulous silverware, and great service. The dining room had portraits from the family around the room so it really did feel like you were dining in history.

I would recommend clonalis to anyone.
