My husband and I stayed here in July mid-season. This was my husband's first time in Donegal so we decided not to book anywhere to allow his to get a "feel" for each town we visited. We were recommended to the Seawinds B&B from the Fleet Inn restaurant - hightly recommend the chowder and Guinness here.

We were shown to our room and had absolutely not complaints. The room was clean and tidy, tea and coffee facilities and had plenty of towels. I have read the other reviews and don't understand the "kept waiting" comments or the "noisy" comments. We faced onto the harbour and there was no noise from the street or the other residents (and I believe most of the rooms were full). The breakfast was great and more importantly the overall service was spot on. Gerald and Patricia were very helpful.

The location itself is in the centre of the town so ideal for wandering around. We had been travelling for quite a bit earlier in the day and this was perfect for leaving the car (free parking) and enjoying the local hospitality.

All in all, absolutely no complaints. I know my husband and I will certainly be back.

“A trip saver”

Somehow, someway, and for some reason, my wife and I luckily found the Seawinds. Our goal was to get as close as we could to Slieve League. We arrived at Killybegs and had a one hour bus layover, and decided to grab a bite at this delicious restaurant called "22" until it was time for us to go. We finished our second bottle of wine and scurried out the restaurant to the bus stop. Unfortunately, we depended on public transportation and the last (and only) bus to Carrick, wizzed passed us ten minutes early. This was one of those defining moments for a couple on a trip in a faraway land. Do we freak out or find a solution? We did both.
At the restaurant, a couple from Tennessee told us about this great b&b up the road, called the Seawinds. We thought we'd give it a whirl. Gerald answered the door with a warm smile and thankfully had a spare room. He could probably see the desperation on our faces. The Seawinds was warm and cozy, and the fireplace in the living room was burning, keeping the ambience at the perfect level. Our room was exactly what we needed and more. The bed was soft, the room was clean, and the shower felt great.
But, this is what truly made this a memorable experience. Gerald's lovely wife, Patricia, heard about our mishap with the bus and arranged for an archaelogist/taxi driver (Derek) to take us 30 miles to the base of Slieve League, hike the cliffs, and pick us up afterward!! Amazing, incredible, and any other adjectives to describe this excellent luck! Not to mention, even though we had checked out of our room, when we got back from a stormy/wet hike, Gerald told us to go back up to the room, shower, and put on dry clothes. No worries....
We recommend this B&B to anyone, Slieve League bound or not!

“Does What it Say's On The Tin!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2011

My husband and I rolled into Killybegs on our motorbikes. We had been touring Northern Ireland and Co Donegal and hadn't booked any places to stay as we were never sure where we were going to end up in a day. We saw the sign for the BnB at the junction on the main road so decided we would give it a go as it was around 5pm and we fancied staying in Killybegs having heard so many good things about the town.

The greeting was warm and friendly and within 20 mins we were enjoying a nice cuppa and a hot shower. The room was a large family room right at the top of the house with an en-suite shower/toilet. Being in the attic space there are several gables to contend with which is ok but if you are quite tall the toilet is positioned under 1 of these so extra care has to be taken when using it otherwise you can bang your head as I did, several times! Apart from this the rooms are clean and the beds comfortable but the towels have seen better days.

There was a good choice of breakfast items from full cooked, a choice of eggs on toast and continental, these had to be chosen the night before from the list left in the lobby. I chose a full cooked and my husband, poached eggs on toast although when his arrived it looked suspiciously like a full cooked! This made us smile as the landlady clearly hadn't looked at her guests breakfast choices but covered it well by making him feel like he was getting something special!

Overall, the bed and breakfast does exactly what it says on the tin. It has a good central location, is clean, comfortable and is run by a lovely couple who recommended a trip to the Slieve League cliffs, well worth a visit!

“A good B & B”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 August 2011

Enjoyed our stay in Killybegs - beautiful harbour, interesting to see real fishermen at work!
The room was clean and comfortable, though the bathroom was quite small (and I am not!)/ A warm welcome and a good tip to eat at a local inn.
Nice breakfast but I do prefer a table to ourselves - I think I want to decide whether to speak to others early in the morning! That's just me .....
AThat said, this is a good B&B but I paid the same as at several hotels while in Ireland

“Not the best stay in Ireland for us”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2011

My family and I had made arrangements to stay at Seawinds B&B with our 16 month old. We were promised a room ensuite and a porta crib for our daughter. These were the two requests that we had of all of the places that we stayed on our 14 day trip. We arrived and were greeted very warmly, then left to wait for 15 minutes in the parlor before we were taken to our room. It was later in the evening when we arrived and we expected the porta crib to be ready so we could put our daughter down. Unfortunately that was not the case. Once we were in the room we were again left, and forced to wander the house trying to locate the lady of the house to find out when her husband would be home to assemble the crib. Normally we would have done this ourselves, however, this crib was held together with orange twine. There were no screws and it was basically roped together in a pile. So we waited for Gerald to return. He was quite lovely and we did enjoy our chat with him as he put together the crib. He had mentioned that he was a fisherman and had spent a great deal of time on ships. This was the most comforting part of the conversation because he was using twine to tie together the corners of the baby's cot.
All throughout the night doors were slammed and we found it to be very loud. I feel I must again state we stayed in 14 other B&B's throughout Ireland, in large and small cities and we found this particular place to be so incredibly loud.
The next morning we decided that instead of just leaving as soon as we woke and moving onto our next city that we would stay and eat breakfast since we had already paid for it with the room. We went downstairs and Gerald told us to wait in the parlor till a table was clear, even though there were many tables open that would have worked even with our toddler in tow. We went back to the previously mentioned parlor and waited 15 minutes. I am assuming in you are reading this and have traveled with a toddler you know that sometimes waiting for 15 minutes is just not possible. So we left. Next is why my review is a "poor" rating. Gerald’s wife proceeded to call our cell phone and demand to know why we had left without staying to eat breakfast. When I explained that we needed to feed our daughter in a timelier manner she began to argue with me about how it did not take 15 minutes and when they returned we were just gone. Again, I feel compelled to say that when traveling with a toddler it takes time to pack up and leave, nothing was done in a quick fashion.
Overall, I felt that I needed to write this down for others. I have read all the other reviews and that is in part why we booked our stay there, however, for our family this was not really the best experience. Maybe it was just an off day - unfortunately it was our only day there. I only wish our stay had been as wonderful as all of the other reviews.

Thank you for your review and we truly appreciate your comments.
After you called to cancel the room the night before we discussed our cancellation policy on the phone, which is 48 hours, you decided to come.

Sorry you felt that you were left waiting while we checked that everything was ready in your room, we just needed to make sure everything was in order. We have a crib for guests and when it is not in use, my husband Gerald dissembles it and puts it away, but the screws happened to be missing that day. Gerald had to improvise with some twine but he did make sure the crib was secure.

We were not aware of any noise that night and did not receive any complaints from other guests. Space is at a premium at breakfast in a family B&B, and sometime guests have to share a table and sometimes we have to reset if a group are together as what happened that morning.

I was a bit surprised when I went to call you for breakfast and discovered that you had already left. To make amends I phoned to say I would prepare a breakfast quickly as I did not want you to travel without eating, you did return and enjoyed the breakfast which I was happy to see.

We value your custom and we are sorry you felt that you had a less than satisfactory experience.
