Having read the glowing reviews on TripAdvisor before I left home, I was slightly skeptical that any B&B could actually live up to the raves. But I am delighted to report that Tullycullion House does - and them some!
In addition to being spotlessly clean, and outfitted with every possible amenity, the room I slept in was quiet and cozy. The bed was comfortable, and the house was blissfully quiet, in spite of several other guests being in residence at the time. Breakfast was delicious, fresh, and very plentiful.
That being said, a nice room and a good breakfast can be expected in many Irish b&bs; and to be honest, you can always find them.
But what sets Tullycullion apart are two unique factors that other establishments cannot duplicate: the extraordinary setting of the house, and the extraordinary personality of the hostess.
The views of Killybegs harbor, the fresh air on the surrounding hills, and the rapidly changing vistas just outside the conservatory windows connect even the busiest and most self-absorbed traveler with the glories of nature. You can't help but get swept up in it.
As for Jacquie, she is simply a natural born hostess. Cheerful, thoughtful and warm. This b&b is clearly a labor of love (along with the donkeys, of course!) and through her enthusiasm for it, she makes each visitor feel unique and special.
Tullycullion House should be a destination, not a detour. Nearby you can have a wonderful meal at Mary Murrin's in Bruckless, and great craic at the pubs in Dunkineely. A truly Irish experience in Donegal.
