“Adequate - but expensive”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2011

After hitch-hiking in the rain to Eglisstadir, a quick phone-around indicated there wasn't a bed to be had in town. Fortunately, the guy who'd given me a lift was staying in a twin room at the Edda, and cracked a deal with me to share costs for one night. The following day he left, and I took the whole room for myself. I've stayed in single Edda rooms before and found them reasonably good value, but the price was a bit steep for a twin room. I had a look at the breakfast spread, but didn't feel it matched the quality I'd come to expect from other Edda hotels. Overall, a bit disappointing, but I was glad to have a roof over my head.

“Dorm accommodations with private bath.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 June 2011

The Edda hotels are school dorms during the school year, hotel rooms in summer. This was just fine, newish, with pretty outlooks. Internet access in lobby and closer in rooms. Restaurant food pretty good.

“The restaurant was surprisingly good!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2010

It is clear that you are staying in a school, so the hotel lacks ambiance, but if you don't mind that it's a good option. The double room we had was quite spacious and comfortable. We got an "advance" rate too so the price was pretty cheap. We had dinner at the onsite restaurant and weren't expecting much but the food was great! The breakfast buffet was pretty good too. Recommended.

“Split-level family rooms - best lamb dish in Iceland!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 August 2009

As a summer hotel from a school dormitory, the hotel offers no luxury. However, the split-level, very spacious family rooms with excellent views to the little airport and surroundings woods was a hit with our children! Small, not very comfortable bathrooms, though. Since Icelandic TV is usually only one not to interesting channel, the lack of TV in the room was no problem. Large outdoor heated public pool just across the street, with long opening hours - cheap as all pools all over Iceland. The biggest surprice was the hotel restaurant, which we chose only due to lack of other options in the area.
The lamb main course was the tendrest, most tasty lamb dish we have ever tasted!! Even the childrens pasta of got rated high by our youngsters. Excellent service as well.

“Nothing to remember”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2008

School converted into hotel in the summer in Egilsstadir in the North-east of Iceland. It seems to be quite old and really looks like a boarding school as do the rooms. Rooms are OK but nothing more. Egilsstadir has nothing to offer so you are obliged to go for dinner in the hotel. To our surprise we were sent away telling us that the restaurant was full tonight. We went out but there was no way that we could eat anywhere else. After complaining about this at the reception we got a table and we noticed that within 15 minutes 5 tables were empty. So we didn’t understand why they did not offer us to wait a few minutes when we came in the first time. All in all a good place to stay overnight but not a hotel to remember for a long time.
