“Great Hotel in the Countryside”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

Hotel is located about 25 Km from the City of Egilsstadir and few hundred meters away from the main road. Our room was very clean and spacious. Front desk staff is courteous and helpful. The views of beautiful Lake Lagarfljot is a bonus for the guests staying here. There are hiking trails, horse and boat rental facilities available very close to the hotel. We are quite happy with our stay in this good hotel with quite surrounding.

“Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2011

We were a little doubtful about booking this hotel when we started driving the 30 kms out of Egilsstadir. But on arrival it was in such a picturesque quiet position and a real surprise. The hotel room was large, clean modern and comfortable with great ensuite. We had a lovely view. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The absolute best part that I would recommend to anyone is the buffet dinner in the restaurant!! It was reasonably priced and the food was plentiful and delicious with a lot of variety. Very impressive. The kitchen/wait staff were friendly and efficient and the dining area is in a glassed in area looking out at the view. The breakfast was very good too and there was tea and coffee making facilities in the room which isn't common in Iceland hotels - very appreciated by tired travellers. There was also a large lounge / bar area upstairs to sit and relax. We were sorry we hadn't the time to stay longer.

“Nice countryside hotel with potential”

When we arrived at this hotel we were upgraded to a room with private facilities eventhough we had booked a room without. This is very good service. But there are areas at this hotel area that do not have private facilities and you shouldn't expect to be upgraded.

The room was big, with a tv and a desk. The bathroom was clean but the water in he shower wasn't very warm but this might have been due to construction works around the hotel.

There was WiFi available in the hotel but not in the rooms as it was blocked. We just took our laptop and went to the bar and did have internet there. Unfortunately we have been asked to leave the bar at 8pm. But this might have been due to the fact that there were only three or four couples in the hotel at the time and we were the only once in the bar.

There is currently constructions going on in the hotel but we haven't been desturbed by them in any way. The hotel is going to be extended and a nice eating area in the basement was built with a great view over the lake.

The breakfast plenty and very good, the hotel also offers dinners but we didn't eat there and therefore we can't say if it is good.

A plus is at this hotel that a public swimming pool is just located across the hotel which is great if you want to go for a swim.

The staff at the hotel were firendly and nice to us.

The hotel is located in a forest area and it is very quiet and peaceful there.

We recommend this hotel to everyboday, especially for people that like it quiet and to hike.

“Good value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 August 2009

We stayed at this hotel for only one night. For Iceland's standard it was ok, simple but rather clean and very quiet. Good location. We had dinner there, since there was nothing else nearby. The buffet was good, although there were no names on the dishes so at times we weren't sure about what we were eating. Breakfast was also ok, again according to Iceland's standards,

“Awful, avoid!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 July 2008

Booked the hotel as we were doing the round trip of Iceland (Highway 1) and couldn't find anything available in Egilsstadir. For a start the Fosshotel website didn't give directions to the hotel - it should be noted that it's about 20 minutes outside of Egilsstadir alongside the lake - which is actually a lovely setting! Shame the same couldn't be said about the hotel, we were charged the same as some 3 and 4 star hotels (23,500 Kr) per night for B&B. This hotel is awful and not anywhere near even 2 star standard, the beds were stained and dirty and the condition of the room was more like a hostel than a hotel - avoid at all costs if you're looking for somewhere nice to stay!
