I stayed here for just one night but it was enough to say that this place is very good. Just few meters from the center of the village, confortable, clean and cozy with a very good cusine. The room was large enough with wardrobe, wood desk just in front of the window and amenities. The staff is kind and are all english speakers. Price on average.

(Gistihús Egilsstaða in Icelandic)

We just fallen in love with this place. We did a 2 week trip in Iceland and Guesthouse Egilsstadir was one of our 2-3 best accommodations (competing with Hotel Selfoss and Hótel Laki-Efri Vik)

The slight disappointment when discovering I had to climb two floors by stairs with luggage for all my family, was quickly replaced by joy. The guesthouse is placed in an old 3 story wood building with red roofs. We received a nice attic with 2 large windows facing a view of the lake and forest; equipped with old, good and nice furniture and with private bathroom .
The reception and restaurant areas were unique: plenty of all sort of antiques including for example a gramophone on which I played a 77 rpm jazz record . The dinner was superb: service, food quality and taste and ambience were all great. The staff was very amiable
Note: The rate and comments I offer are relative to other Iceland accommodations and not relative to hotels in other places of the world. Relative to the rest of the world, my rating for this hotel would have been lower.

Room Tip: I think the first floor (Second in US terms) has shared bathrooms

“Great hotel”

We stayed one night in this cozy hotel during our two week trip round Iceland.

Room (with private facilities) was big and clean. Hotel has free wireless internet.

We didn't have supper in the hotel, but it seems to be a choicy restaurant in the area. Breakfast buffet was very good and staff were all friendly !

Definitely recommended

“Iceland at it's best!”

We had a great stay at this guesthouse. I was cautious as I had never stayed at a farm guesthouse but this the perfect setting, rooms were large and decorated beautifully. Staff was pleasant, location ideal, next to lake and close to town. One night ate at the restaurant it was fabulous. Breakfasts were also great. I would recommend this to anyone.

Room Tip: Double bed rooms we had was great. Room 10 great.

“One of our favorites in Iceland”

Beautiful place and lovely restaurant. I really enjoyed the decor. Most places where we stayed while in Iceland were very basic, but this wasn't (we booked our trip, including this place, through Icelandic Farm Holidays). I felt like we were staying in a three or four star hotel.

We only spent one night and didn't really get to explore the area because the day we arrived, there was terrible, terrible weather. We were glad to have a nice place to stay in for the evening and eat.
