“Cozy and nice little hotel. A gem.”
(Gistihús Egilsstaða in Icelandic)
We just fallen in love with this place. We did a 2 week trip in Iceland and Guesthouse Egilsstadir was one of our 2-3 best accommodations (competing with Hotel Selfoss and Hótel Laki-Efri Vik)
The slight disappointment when discovering I had to climb two floors by stairs with luggage for all my family, was quickly replaced by joy. The guesthouse is placed in an old 3 story wood building with red roofs. We received a nice attic with 2 large windows facing a view of the lake and forest; equipped with old, good and nice furniture and with private bathroom .
The reception and restaurant areas were unique: plenty of all sort of antiques including for example a gramophone on which I played a 77 rpm jazz record . The dinner was superb: service, food quality and taste and ambience were all great. The staff was very amiable
Note: The rate and comments I offer are relative to other Iceland accommodations and not relative to hotels in other places of the world. Relative to the rest of the world, my rating for this hotel would have been lower.
Room Tip: I think the first floor (Second in US terms) has shared bathrooms
