“Big Hotel with No facility”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2011

I drove there in the evening and I took an hour to find the road to the Hotel which located on the top of a hill. Hotel is not near the city and you need to take a taxi from rail station of Kalabaka. However the hotel offers a breathtaking views over the Meteora. Hotel is fairly large in the reception area but not too much furniture and decoration. Rooms are simple but clean and I would say it is up to a good 3* standard (defintely not 5* ) but the price we pay is not that expensive. Breakfast is so simple and I guess there are not too many people stay during the winter period.

“Lovely view, open, spacious, quiet, comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 July 2010

Having read prior reviews before writing my own, I am wondering if this hotel is newly built. It looked fresh and new. The things previous reviewers found wrong or not working had evidently been corrected as of our stay in June 2010. There is no wi-fi, but I don’t expect this everywhere, and there is so much to see at Meteora that we didn't miss it. There was internet, though, at a station in the public space. We were with a small group (24 people), with Overseas Adventure Travel for a two-night stay. The setting couldn't have been better, with a panoramic view of the rock pinnacles of Meteora. The changing light of day into evening turned the pinnacles into quite a light show. We had a good dinner, lovely large breakfast buffet--but we were told by our guide that the hotel only serves dinner when a group is in residence, but this I can't confirm. The pool area was bright and cheerful with red geraniums. Everything had a fresh, white-washed look. There was an openess and spaciousness to the public spaces that was very refreshing after the small size of city hotel spaces. Yes, a child's toys were in evidence behind the lobby desk, but it just added character in our view. There were indeed chairs on the balcony, two, and a nice little table to hold my tea, which I ordered up every evening at the bar, and which was served with a pretty teapot and matching cup and saucer on a tray that I carried to our room. Watching twilight fade into night from the balcony was lovely. This hotel is off the beaten path, a short drive from Kalambaka, so for those wanting to walk out into town in the evening, you would have to drive. It was a comfortable stay. I don't know its value for the money, as our trip was paid in one lump sum, so we didn't know the prices of any of our hotels. There seemed to be very little staff at the hotel, yet services were done in a timely manner, and we had no complaints. It almost felt as if you were staying in someone's lovely, large timber and tile and whitewashed house. The hotel had a feeling of tranquility, almost of monastic peace. Open, spare, uncrowded. I liked it. I would stay there again if just for the view. When rating using the check-box bit, I reserved 5's for hotels like the Ritz, so my three's are not bad ratings.

“Do they have any clue what is a 5-star hotel???”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 June 2010

if you get there with your own car, there is absolutely NO WAY to find it... Make sure to get proper directions. I must admit though that the view is fabulous. That's all!! 5-star amenities... forget it. Yes its a nice clean big hotel with high potential if they do something. Service? nowhere... Pool? not so clean... Outer windows for the sun not to wake you up in the morning? why to be there? there is no sun in this country... Any action for Mosquitos maybe in the province??? How many days do they expect to change our sheetsand towels??? probably only for the next guest... and since we live only in 2010 why to have Wi-Fi ? there is ONE laptop in the reception for everyone.. But Kalampake has 4 wifi spots!!!

“Nice hotel in a nice city”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2009

We stayed at the Meteora Hotel in Kalambaka for two nights to visit the monasteries.
The rooms were clean, the breakfast was very nice. Although it says on their brochure that there would be a swimming pool there is none.

“DEFINITELY a strange hotel, unfinished.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 July 2009

I echo angten's comments. This is definitely a strange hotel. As though it was designed by a friend who is an architecture student and then built by an uncle who is a homebuilder. The setting is great with a wonderful view of the limestone pitons but as stated previously, there are no chairs on the balcony which makes no sense.

I actually got TRAPPED in the elevator and was able to make it go back to my floor fortunately as there was no emergency telephone in the car (it had never been installed). The alarm button rang but the hotel is built so unusually I don't think they could have heard us.

The service staff is brought in from Balkan countries for the summer and is friendly but unpolished. The food offering is not all that great and pricey, they don't have most of the things listed on their menu.

Also, despite being in May and hot, they had a beautiful pool which was not filled with water.

But as long as you come in knowing what to expect this is certainly a great hotel, off the beaten path, with amazing views.

It is also evident this is a family affair as there were toys strewn all over the front desk area and the owner's child was yelling in the cavernous lobby area. They also had a lot of burnt out light bulbs that as an ex-hotelier is a big pet peeve as it is indicative of lack of attention to detail.
