My husband and I stayed at Escapes! to Bella Vista Village (The Greens) by trading our timeshare. They do vacation rentals as well. What a great place to go and relax. The unit was a 2-bedroom/2-bath. When you first walk up to the villa you walk through an outdoor entryway with a table and chairs and ceiling fan. Then you walk through the front door to an extremely comfortable living room with 2 sofas, 2 recliners, a large TV and fireplace. There is a dining area, and efficiency kitchen with stove, fridge, dishwasher, etc. The master bedroom is large with a good size closet and king bed. The master bath is enormous with a huge whirlpool tub. There is a second normal size bedroom with 2 beds and a normal size bath. It is nicely decorated and has all the comforts of home. There is a decent sized deck which overlooks lots and lots of trees. It was a great place to relax. Go into Bentonville on your first day and check out the large Walmart and stock up on soda, water, snacks, and food, etc.
My only negative comment about the resort would be the pool. It is very small and not open very long hours.
There were some activities for the kids and a couple of inexpensive dinners at the resort which we did not partake in. Go to the continental (donuts and coffee) activities breakfast the first day or two to find out what is offered that week.
If you play golf, Bella Vista is the town for you! This place is right on the golf course, but there are many, many others around as well. Lots of parks too. There is a nice walking trail at Tanyard Creek and the activies director will give you a map and tell you how to get there.
There is a lot of history in the area. Civil War battlefields such as Pea Ridge National Military Park and a nice walking tour of Fayetteville which is about 25 minutes away. One of the best things we did was a tour of Headquarters House in Fayetteville (the battle of Fayetteville was fought on the front lawn). Call for reservations when you first get to town. You will be met at the door by people in period dress and they will tell you the story of Fayetteville and the war all while staying in character. If you are lucky like we were, you will be the only ones there and have your own private tour for $12 a person. It was over 3 hours long and I'm sure we could have stayed longer. These people are volunteers and absolutely relish telling the stories of people who lived long ago. They really do make the characters come to life. It was the highlight of the trip. If you have seen the movie "The Blue and the Gray," it was filmed there.
Other places not to be missed are Eureka Springs, an artsy town with lots of Victotrian "Painted Ladies" houses and many unique shops. Take the trolley tour and make sure to have lunch at a quirky little place that the locals love called "The Oasis" for some Ark-Mex food. The place has been written up several times in the local papers. Yummy. It's a tiny little place but the food is great! Check out the Crescent Hotel and have a drink upstairs where you get a nice overview of the town. There is a chapel just outside of town worth seeing called Thornwood, very lovely. And speaking of chapels, even closer to your home away from home in Bella Vista, is the Mildred B. Cooper Chapel. It is so beautiful and serene and I liked it even better than the more famous Thornwood. If you go an hour or so before sunset, it is so peaceful.
The Botanical Garden of the Ozarks in Fayetteville is worth a visit. They have only been open for a year, but it is going to be a really splendid place once it matures.
The Bella Vista War Memorial does a nice job of laying out all of the wars where our boys have served. Definitely worth a visit; only takes about 1/2 hour to walk through.
Restaurants worth the price:
Fred's Hickory Inn, Bentonville
Bordino’s, Fayetteville
Fish City, Pinnacle Hills Promenade Mall, Rogers
Meet At Doe’s, Fayetteville
All and all the Bella Vista, Bentonville, Rogers, Fayetteville area is for history and golf, kicking back and relaxing. The area isn't full of excitement or amusement parks, but if you are looking for some nice relaxation and down time, you will enjoy it.
