I absolutely loved staying at Las Caletas. We stayed for four nights in early Jan 2012. The surroundings were peaceful, casual, with a feeling of adventure. We stayed in a tent that I would call luxury camping. The tent was on a platform with a double queen size bed inside it, headboard, lounge chairs - not your average camping trip. The view from the open air dining lounge had us whale watching with our morning coffee and bird watching with a beer after a long day of adventure in the forest or on the ocean. David, the owner, and all the staff were such gracious and helpful hosts. Jose, the guide for all the excursions, was so knowledgeable and possessed a good sense of humour. We were able to experience so much from this special place. Jose showed us so many creatures that go beep, peep, and buzz. The sheer volume of life forms on the Osa Peninsula is dazzling. The food was great - lots of fresh fruit and home cooked meals. I also really enjoyed the type of traveler attracted to Las Caletas. The guests were from all over the world and came with an attitude of adventure. Since the lodge has only a limited number of rooms, the opportunity to talk with other guests at meal times or after a day in the forest was a highlight of the day. The guests were generally well educated and well traveled. I appreciated this. Traveling not only broadens your mind but also lengthens the conversation. I would highly recommend a stay at Las Caletas.
