“Would return”

This place was the cheapest we could find in a very expensive town. And we were delighted. Young man on front desk was lovely and helpful, room was spotlessly clean (which is a must for me). Location is on Hwy 89A but we couldn't hear the traffic at all as our room was right up the back.

Good internet wifi, coffee making, fridge, microwave and lovely comfy beds. Didn't have breakfast here as we had our own cereal as we don't like the danishes for breakfast but they do try and that is OK with us. There is a pool but being winter we didn't bother.

What impressed us most was we decided last minute to go out to the Out of Africa Wildlife Park and wanted to pay online to get the discount. Without a printer this makes it really hard but the guy on the front desk wasn't fazed at all. We booked and paid on his computer and he printed the voucher out in the office. Couldn't have been easier. How nice is that?

Sedona is overly expensive so this place was one of the higher priced places we have been too BUT the price was right for Sedona. Would stay again.

Room Tip: A room up the back is away from the Highway so less noise. However in Summer it may be a problem wi...

“Everything you need and squeaky clean!”

We were sick of disappointing Priceline/Hotwire results and would much much rather support local businesses, so, we called a few places in the back of a Sedona guide and Sugar Loaf was the 2nd cheapest, friendliest to talk to, and best reviewed on trip advisor. Sold.

We were sooooooo happy with our decision. Since it was the middle of the week in January it was fairly dead. The owner gave us "his best room" which was a king with a twin "to put our suitcases on." I thought that was a really considerate suggestion.

Since we got into town late, we had missed the open hours of the visitors center, but, not to worry, Sugar Loaf had copies of all the trail guides and everything so we still got to pre-plan our treks!

There is also free wifi, a pool and hot tub (which we were too tired to use), a fridge/microwave, and some breakfast snacks (which I saw people complain about on here - which is ridiculous. This is a tiny little motor lodge. Though I have food allergies and couldn't consume a single thing provided at breakfast, I still give them an A for effort for trying to provide breakfast in their tiny little space! It impressed me! And, ok, if I had to make one suggestion, maybe throwing in an apple or banana wouldn't hurt...I did expect their to be a piece of fruit I could eat and there wasn't.)

“Sugar retreat”

The experience had at The SugarLoaf Lodge was a pleasant one in that the other lodgers were so friendly; one couple recommended we go to the church in the hills and we met other nice people. If you get a chance go to the Casa Bonita and I guarantee you will be pleased in an epicurean experience upon ordering the blackberry margarita and Pollo Fundido!

“Travel back to the 1980s: Average room, very good value & location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2011

This small 15-unit family-owned motor lodge takes you back to the 1970s/1980s. You park in front of your door, and the decor is decidedly out of the 1970s/1980s. It is an old motor lodge, with the bathroom and closet area at the back of the unit, so the near bed is only a few feet from the door. Our room was average sized, and the beds were a bit soft. However, the room was very clean, and the bedding and carpet appeared fairly new. There was a small table, 2 chairs, an armoire will flat screen tv, a microwave, and a small fridge. Pretty basic but comfortable, clean and inexpensive in overpriced Sedona. There was coffee, OJ, V8, yogurt, granola bars, and wrapped danishes for breakfast, which you take back to your room. Great location about 2 miles west of the 179 and 89a intersection, although it is right on 89a (like all other hotels in the area). Good place to stay if you are interested in seeing Sedona and just need a clean, comfortable place to lay your head.

Room Tip: They seem pretty much all the same

“We've just booked our 3rd stay here”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2011

We just booked our 3rd stay here for October. This is a great little motel for us. The price is very affordable. There aren't many places to stay in Sedona for less than $100 per night, and that's a big factor for our family. Also big pluses for us are the India Palace right around the corner, which has very good food. It's also close to the Bashas' grocery store for cheap lunches, the city park is just down the road towards town. And another important place for our family is the New Frontier Market, which has a ton of vegetarian/vegan options for us. We also really like that it's away from the touristy part of DT Sedona. The only not so great part is the parking lot/driveway. With it not being paved, it can be a bit messy when it rains. It needs to be graded to level out some of the dips.
