I really, really wanted to love this place. Bliss Spa products in the rooms, fun, sexy lounge, bar and restaurant, super convenient location... but none of this could save the overall feeling of inadequacy that haunts every corner of this dimly-lit, over-priced, wannabe-hipster hotel. We checked in, not expecting a zen-like experience... we read the reviews and knew it would be a lively place. We're always down for some music, drinks and fun... but the booming bass lines until 3am from the nest of clubs across the street ruined any semblance of rest for which I was hoping. We changed rooms less than 5 minutes after walking in. We had asked for something reasonably quiet and were originally placed in a room directly facing the clubs, immediately across from the elevator bank. We were moved to the side of the hotel, which made the noise level significantly more tolerable. How anyone manages to sleep on the club side of the hotel is beyond me. The room itself, trying so hard to be innovative, with the bed smack in the middle - is just silly, unnecessary, and not even a novelty - it's just annoying. No real privacy to speak of in the 'bathroom area' and walls so thin, you can hear conversations word for word (not to mention, everything else there is to hear in a hotel room... how lucky for us all!). Wifi priced at an absurd $14.95 a day? Why, yes, yes it was. We considered checking out and finding something else, but everywhere in town was booked solid due to conferences. We'll find our Scottsdale haven soon... I know it. It's just never going to be at the W.
Pros: In the heart of things... lots of restaurants, shops and bars within easy walking distance. Cool pool area. Good pillows. The manager on duty did send up a bottle of champagne when we asked to change rooms, which honestly was a nice touch, and saved this review from being a one star.
Cons: Seriously noisy. Indifferent staff for the most part. Ineffective room layout. Value just not there for us overall. Food and drinks on the way too pricey side. Staff and management don't seem to truly care about the client experience.
