“The Horror... The Horror.”

I am writing this review several months after staying at the Frontier Motel. I thought this would be best forgotten but recently recounted our experience to a friend and realized others need to hear it too.

We arrived late at the Frontier Motel the night before beginning the hike down to Havasupai. While the choices in this area are limited we felt comfortable that the motel would be a basic but nice place to stay based on the generally favorable reviews we read online. Unfortunately, past reviewers perception of the place may have been obscured by nostalgia.

The motel is a 1960's vintage and I think that was the last time it was cleaned too. Everything was coated with a thick layer of dust and grime. Granted, it's the desert but seriously, they couldn't use a damp cloth on the tabletops or vacuum the ancient and quite disgusting shag carpet? The bedspread and blanket were tattered and its cleanliness suspect. We stripped them off before going to bed and even then we were leery of the sheets. We didn't even want to think about the mattress. The AC did nothing. The shower had almost no water pressure. Everything, including us when we checked out the next morning, was permeated with a sickly, tangy, smoky odor that even the windows-open, wind-blowing drive to the Havasupai trailhead couldn't get rid of.

Our knocks at the office door to see if we could change rooms -- hoping that ours was the exception -- went unanswered.

Awful. Horrible. Deplorable. These are words that are not included in the TripAdvisor checkboxes but should be for this hovel.

“Worst Motel I've Ever Stayed In”

Old and nostalgic is fine, but this wasn't that. It was filthy. I had dead bugs and hair on my pillows. My niece said the bugs were jumping around in her bed. Carpet was old and dirty. Bathroom was grungy and the shower curtain was very dirty. Everything had a heavy layer of dust on it. The smell was terrible - not sure what it was. I was there with a large group of family members who were packpacking down to the Havasupai Indian Reservation the next day. We were not expecting a palace, but this was totally unacceptable. Everyone felt the same way - we wished we had left.. I should have slept in the car!! We didn't realize there was another motel up the street otherwise we would have left. The motel is in Truxton which is a cute town, but I don't recommend the Frontier.

Traveling with my wife on business on Historic HWY 66. This motel is a great way to step back in time and enjoy what it was like to drive 66 in it's prime. Very clean and comfortable and I wonderful piece of Americana!

“Remote location along route 66”

While we didn't actually stay the night, we drove from Oatman, AZ to Valle, AZ and along the route we came across the Frontier Motel & Cafe. Seemed like a historic motel with very little around it that would make for a great spot to rest if needed. It's in the town of Truxton (West of Peach Springs and the Grand Canyon Cavern).
