Great food, wonderful people, beautiful property, but my room (Casita #9) was infested with mice. After spending one sleepless night listening to mice scurrying around under my bed and inside the walls and ceiling of the room, as the second evening of the three I had booked rolled around, I decided to see if I could flush the mice out of their hiding place and chase them out the front door of the casita. I had seen them crawling up into the bottom of the chest of drawers near the foot of my bed, so I began by removing the drawers from the cabinet starting from the bottom. There were at least two mice hiding in or behind the drawers, including one I found crawling around on some of my clothes. As I exposed the mice the scurried off under the bed and disappeared. Since there was no traditional mouse-hole in the baseboard behind the bed, or anywhere else in the room, I concluded they were probably nesting inside the box spring of the bed. After pulling the bed away from the walls of the corner it was crammed into, I discovered a dozen or two mouse turds on the floor under the bed and along the baseboards where I had seen the mice running. A little Hantavirus with your green juice? How about a side of Lyme Disease? At that point, I realized that my lungs and throat had been reacting to something since I arrived the day before, and that the room had a slight odor of urine and mouse feces. On discovering a couple of mouse turds between the sheets of the bed that I was planning to sleep in that night, I decided that I had had enough and this exposure was going to end right away. I loaded my things in my car and bailed out, hitting the road about 10 pm. Thanks for the lovely experience, TOL. Overall, the place has some major positive aspects, but the accommodations are seriously deficient, especially considering the price. Healing depends on getting a good night's sleep, which you may not find here, and it seems inappropriate for a health resort to be exposing guests to the well-known and serious health hazards associated with mice and mouse droppings.
