“Decent place”

The Scottsdale Cottonwoods Resort was decent, but I wouldn't go back. I was impressed by the main office and it set me up for great expectations for the rooms, that never came to fruition. The rooms are like bungalows with private entrances, and similar to your personal bungalow. But the rooms are very far from the main office, and from parking. My room had a jacuzzi in the back enclosed by a fence and was very dirty and disgusting. Luckily the back doors to the bungalows did not open, so I didn't have to worry about taking a closer look. The rooms were dingy looking with dingy carpeting and would not be my first choice or any choice if I was to go back. The staff was very nice and pleasant, and willing to please, but the overall facility is "dated".

“Don't Believe the Pictures!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

We paid over $200 for the suite room upgrade. I can't imagine what the downgrade looks like. This is nothing more than a lower tier hotel and ignore any of the "resort" advertising. If you need a place to stay for a night that is not nice, this is the spot. However, do not waste your money upgrading bc there is no upgrade. This place was a trip through the last couple decades: the kitchen screamed 60's, The bedroom 70's, the terrible wallpapered bathroom 80s, and the living room 90's. However, it definitely stopped in the 90's. They did have a nice walk around the resort in the surrounding desert, but I would suggest if you want to stay in a bad hotel, stay in a cheap bad hotel and use the money saved for a nice dinner. Will absolutely never return.

Room Tip: A good room would be at a different resort or their cheapest rates.

“Dated rooms, but clean with good staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

I spent 5 nights here for our annual sales meeting in January 2012.
The rooms need remodeling, there is no doubt about that, but the rooms are clean and the staff is very attentive and responsive.

I have to say this: I spend over 100 nights a year in hotels, and this was the most comfortable hotel bed I have ever experienced.

There are LOTS of dining and shopping opportunities very close by, so if that's your thing and you want to save some money on the hotel, come stay here.

Room Tip: Get something close to the parking lot unless you want to do a lot of walking.

“Don't stay here. Don't trust them.”

Found cockroach under sink, moldy meat in uncleaned refrigerator in our room. My cousin's room they found some poop from a dog or small animal in their room. The 2nd room they had was nonsmoking and smelled bad of smoke. Total room changes of 4 times. Not to mention unreasonable resort fees. You no longer can us their personal room hot tubs. A new law says u cannot even go back on the back porches. I don't want to know how many children were hurt or worse due to them, so they had to make a new law to close them... lastly it was our mistake that we left a laptop in room 160. We have 3 grand kids that we hid the computer from and when we checked out we forgot to pick it up. We called a couple hours later from the road on our way back to Colorado. They said nothing was found. I question their staff directly due to how much they do not take pride in their work nor facilities. If they don't care to clean the refrigerator nor check for bugs, I'm sure they would not report a found laptop. As I said before don't stay there and don't trust them...

“Charming, but outdated casita style hotel.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

My husband and I stayed at the Cottonwoods Resort in the Scottsdale area for New Years Eve weekend. After checking in, driving to casita area and hauling our luggage across a large, winding courtyard area, we entered our room only to find it with a bad odor and the room a complete mess, not cleaned and with trash everywhere. I drove back to the front desk and the man behind the counter was very apologetic and friendly and was able to get us another room close by. This room was clean and near the pool area, however very outdated. The TV's in both the bedroom and living room area were the old fashioned smaller tubed sets. The back door to the outside patio was locked and we were unable to go outside to the back (however it was filled with yard debris). While we didn't use the pool area, it looked clean and inviting and there was a nice crowd of people enjoying it. This has great potential of becoming a very nice resort - it just needs some money invested into it. It is in a great location, walking distance to the Borgata shopping area with great restaurant choices and the casita concept is very nice.

Room Tip: Ask for room with pool view.

Dear Valued Guest,
I wish to thank you for sharing your comments with us. I could not agree with you more. The casita concept really is grand. The lay out of the property really allows for peace and quite, and not the feeling of being crowded. The pool area was remodled last summer and has been a great amenity for our guests enjoyment. Thank you for being our guests.
