“Pleasant Resort, but a Little Tired”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Stayed for 5 days/4 nights to participate in a company meeting; self contained with meeting rooms, meals, reception and lodging on the property. We didn't really use it as a resort, but rather a venue for business meetings and group dining.

The Good: the facility was able to accommodate over 400 attendees in all our activities. Meals were excellent and every contact with staff was pleasant. The public areas were attractive in the expected Southwestern motiff. Shuttle from/to PHX was efficient, but be prepared to spend $23pp each direction. My upgraded room (called a Bi-Level Suite) was roomy and the lower level served well as a meeting room for 3 or 4. It also had a second full bath on the lower level, it you value that.

The Not-So-Good: The main bath was a bit small and felt dated (no biggie, but not "world class" as the resort's website positions.) The landline telephone looked as it was from the 70's and the speakerphone was awful. Wireless Internet worked for about 2 days, then inexplicably would not work; co-workers were having the same problem. The fitness center was better than most business hotels, but fell short of my expectations of a resort.

All in all, a good stay but not exceptional.

Room Tip: It's nice to have the space the suite offered. Co-workers observed their standard rooms were not...

“Very Good!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

We stayed January 30-February 6 on a business trip related to the Phoenix Open. The grounds are beautiful, and well maintained. We stayed in Villa Suite 7011 which showed a little wear, but was still very nice. The pools, hot tubs, saunas and workout facility were all great and well maintained. Service was excellent in all areas, from maid service to the restaurants.

We had a few complaints though. Internet service was an additional cost. Starbucks is close by though. The televisions in our unit were older, low resolution tube TVs. The HVAC system was quite loud, as was the ceiling fan in the bathroom. There was only a small coffee maker, and mini-refrigerator (which was pre-stocked). No microwave. We emptied the small refrigerator to keep our leftovers cool, but then there was no microwave to re-heat them.

Room Tip: Choose a suite or room furthest from Scottsdale Road if possible.

Beautiful resort -- close to everything! The setting and ambience is all Arizona. Remington's restaurant was fantastic. Great meeting location.

“Very Disappointed!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

I have never written a review before of anywhere we have stayed, but felt I had to with our recent trip to the Scottsdale Plaza Resort. They claim to have the largest whirpool in Arizona, but it seroiusly felt like a warm bath. Not even close to hot. If you want to connect to internet in your room, it will cost you $12.95 PER DAY! Seems quite hilarious when there is free Wi-Fi everywhere. One night my husband and I decided to stay in and watch a movie. We were excited to find the movie we were hoping to watch on the TV (there are no DVD players, so renting the movie was out of the question-we even called the front desk asking if we might be able to get one). When we went to rent the movie from the room TV, the cost was going to be $14.95!! My husband called the front desk to confirm this charge because we were in shock. It's correct. We could have easily bought the DVD for that price. The final disappoint about our stay at the resort was that due to a terrible snow/ice storm in Seattle, WA, it took us 2 days to get down to Arizona with 2 cancelled flights. Because we had booked our stay through Priceline, the reservation was non-refundable and we lost our first night's stay even though we were stuck in Seattle. We decided to extend our stay for 1 extra day because of the delay in getting to Scottsdale, but the manager would not consider shifting our reservation back a day and covering one last night at the resort. He offered us a decent price to stay the final night, but we headed to the nearest Starbucks to get some Wi-Fi and booked our last night through Priceline at the Hilton Double Tree for $60, about 2 miles down the road! We will not be staying at this resort again!

“Really loud heater/air conditioner”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

Loved the "villa" set up.. like a private condo. Very nice and large and clean. Two smallish issues: the property is so big, you get taken to your "villa" in a golf cart... very large property and the hike back out was a bit more than I wanted... also, the HVAC unit sounded like a helicopter was right over my room every time it cycled on.
