We spent 4 nights at Bertie's and really enjoyed it. Its a bit out of town in a residential area so you get to see how people live. A lovely memory was the neighbours singing on Sunday morning. There are buses into town that stop very nearby the B&B. Breakfast was basic but lovely - Papaya & lime, mmmmm! Mark & Marianna live in the main house while the guest rooms are in a block behind the house. Breakfast is served on their porch which has been made into a bar/dining area. The hosts are easy to talk to and a wealth of information. There's not much around Bertie's in the way of food so its best to eat in town before you come back to your room. The room we stayed in was air conditioned, simply furnished, with basic bathroom. We found the bed comfortable. It was perfect for us who don't really care about 5 star quality. The main thing is that it was comfortable and cool.
We really enjoyed just walking around the neighbourhood. Also, one day we went to catch the bus and missed it. While we waited for the next one to come along we just walked towards town along the bus route & talked to people as we went. Samoa is really friendly like that.
Mark also takes tours through the island and invited us to tag along when we transferred to Lalomanu. The cost was reasonable we thought and he dropped us at the door. We also got to see some of the sights along the way with the tour group. Mark also arranged for us to be picked up and dropped at the airport on our way in and out of Samoa.
We have no hesitation in recommending Bertie's.
