“Still looks brand new”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

We slept at the Rayentray 3 nights while visiting Puerto Madryn and the Valdes Peninsula. The hotel still looks brand new . The rooms are beautiful and comfortable. They all have a balcony facing the bay. Unfortunatly, when we got there the Hudson Volcano in Chile had erupted and the ashes from the volcano obstructed the view and covered the city. The hotel had unexpected big groups of tourists stranded there because of flight cancellations. I can understand that the service was slower and they hardly could replace the eggs and breakfast items fast enough for the heard of exausted tourists. Still I keep a good souvenir of the hotel, the pleasant staff and the beauty of the region.

“Beautiful hotel, but food poisoning tainted the visit”

In October 2008 my agency took a large group to the Rayentray hotel, newly opened the previous month. The hotel itself is beautiful and spacious, but the service was definitely rough. I attributed this to new staff in a new hotel getting used to things. The location is about a 20 minute walk to the center of Puerto Madryn and the shops, but you can easily walk the beach to get there. In all we had a nice experience at the hotel until the last night (we stayed for three nights) and our celebratory farewell dinner for 120 people. The food was ok, but nothing special, but later that evening, several members of the group became sick. The following morning, at least 15 more people were sick, including my mother who was on the tour. Doctors were called and came to the hotel and the management was nowhere to be found. That was the most upsetting part to me - the management disappeared on that morning during this entire crazy morning. It was the day of our departure back home and we had to change many people's flights because they could not board the plane. I had to change my flight as well as that of my mother so she could recover. The front desk was helpful, but the management and owner (whom I had met on an inspection trip the previous year) were completely absent though the staff said they were in Puerto Madryn. No accountability from the management and absolutely no follow up after my return to the US. Completely unprofessional in my book.

“The only 5 star in town, but not a 5 star hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2010

A huge building hosts this hotel in Puerto Madryn beach marginal street. It's not what you would expect, as a nature destination would require quality hosting with less visual impact. The rooms are small but confortable. But the service is of 2 or 3 star standards. The breakfast is very simple and the service inexistent.

“Claims to be 5 star, but is really only in local comparison...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 August 2009

We (couple in the early thirties + 2 year old daughter) stayed in the hotel for 4 nights. The hotel is really new, just open for a year or so. They say that in the future they'll have a Spa, pool, etc. So far it doesn't exist and they tell you clearly when you book on the phone and if you ask them.

The rooms are quite big, all of them equipped with LCD-TVs. We had two rooms that were connected directly through a door. Price was really low on comparison to international standards (it was lowest possible season too... there might have been like 10 other guests in the hotel...). What disappoints regarding the rooms is the bathrooms. They are really small compared to the rest of the room and although clean and new definitely not 5-star-standard.

Included in the room price was the breakfast that is offered from 06h to 10h in the hotel’s restaurant in form of a buffet. Big disappointment!!! There wasn’t any fresh stuff on the buffet. No eggs, no ham, no sausages… non of the usual stuff you would expect. They had some croissants that were really old, at least several days!!! Well, this might change in high season when they see a bigger turnover on the breakfast buffet but for a 5 star it was not acceptable!
Service at the reception lacked attitude… we got the feeling they felt something better because of working in a 5 star hotel. I’ve been served better in lower category hotels.
All in all, when you like to have new, well equipped rooms and you don’t care too much about breakfast I guess there’s still nothing better in Puerto Madryn.
