The hostel is in a great location - close to the bus stop, and since most people here are going to the falls this is where you want to be.

The hostel is nice enough - the pool is great because its very hot and humid. THe place isn't particularly clean - just on acceptable though. The pool doens't get looked after I don't think. The kitchen just has the bare basics. The rooms are comfortable enough - the double private has great air-con. The bathroom is really small with an open shower i.e. there is nothing separating the shower from the toilet and sink so water goes everywhere!!

THe wifi internet doesn't work here in the rooms - you need to go out to the communal/reception area. The laundry is outsourced to a laundromat, so its easier to just go and do it yourself.
The staff are nice enough, but don't try too hard to help.

Having read all the other reviews about this place I am somewhat surprised. Staff were friendly enough. Room clean. Wifi was really quick and didn't drop out.

I wouldn't call a five minute walk from the bus station way out of town. All the guys spoke some English and with the little Spanish I knew I had no problems.

At 100 pesos for a double it's good value.

Would say they need to clean the pool as it was unusable which was annoying as it was so hot.

I was disappointed with El Guembe. There were a lot of mosquitoes in our room, very tiny shower space, and no hot water. It was also a bit far from the center of town. I did find the staff very friendly, but maybe a bit misinformed because they told us we would be able to see the Brazilian side of the falls without visas yet we were turned away at the border. It was quiet, being far away from the centro, and has free computer use. It is cheap, but there are better hostels in Puerto Iguazu.

It was a fairly bad hostel (shower was a dribble, toilet didn't flush a lot of the time) but that's what you expect from a cheap hostel. As two females travelling and looking for a few comforts, we decided that we wanted to stay somewhere nicer and asked for a refund. We were refused (again, not entirely unexpected). What worried me was that when I pushed the issue, they called in a couple of heavies. Seriously, one guy was bouncing on his heals asking me what my problem was and looking generally menacing.

So, if you're going to stay at El Guembe, make sure you only pay one night at a time. Also, you will need to speak some Spanish.
