Although Puerto Iguazu does not have great accommodation in general, El Guembe manages to disappoint. The rooms are dark and mouldy. There were dozens of mosquitoes there because they leave the doors open all day when not in use. The beds are thin foam mattresses, covered in thin/old cotton sheets that did not seem to have been washed. The pillows were old, lumpy and quite damp smelling. We were also very itchy in the beds, which indicates bugs of some kind. The result was little to no sleep.

Although there is a pool, it was not clean at the time we were there (not sure the filter was working at all).

In general everything is dark, and unclean looking.

Positives: cheap, wifi worked well, there was a minimal breakfast, it was in a quiet street, two blocks back from the main road.

All in all there seemed to be better, cleaner similar priced options in the area

Before coming, I had made a reservation by email but I had not written the adress of the hostel because I didn't though they were two hostel in Puerto Iguazu with the same name (they certainly didn't think that was relevant to indicate it to me!).

Then I came to one (the wrong one!) and after understanding that they didn't find my reservation I decided to go to an other hostel, where other friends were staying.

The day after, I have received an insulting email from a staff member of El Guembe : "... la verdad que son unos idiotas.."

chose El Guembe cos my first 2 choices were fully booked so I was crossing my fingers when I alighted from the bus terminal. El Guembe is indeed a fair distance from the bus terminal, took me about 15mins to drag my bags through the pebblestones. Finally found the tucked away hostel. Daniel (guess he's the boss) greeted me immediately and knew who I was and showed me my room. First nite, the shower water was not enough so the water disappeared after a short while. i guess the trick is to shower early :)
breakfast is ok, bread w butter & coffee/tea. I'm content w that but u can buy a bit more from the supermkt in town if its not enuf. The pool is working when i was there and i love the hammocks to laze around on a sunny day. Kitchen is a little unkept but my things in the fridge were untouched and everything was there after 2-3 days. Water in the next 2 days are fine and heated and plenty.
A plus is they let me stay on in the lobby w internet after i check out 10am till my bus 5pm leaves. Staff are courteous and friendly :)

The hostel is in a great location - close to the bus stop, and since most people here are going to the falls this is where you want to be.

The hostel is nice enough - the pool is great because its very hot and humid. THe place isn't particularly clean - just on acceptable though. The pool doens't get looked after I don't think. The kitchen just has the bare basics. The rooms are comfortable enough - the double private has great air-con. The bathroom is really small with an open shower i.e. there is nothing separating the shower from the toilet and sink so water goes everywhere!!

THe wifi internet doesn't work here in the rooms - you need to go out to the communal/reception area. The laundry is outsourced to a laundromat, so its easier to just go and do it yourself.
The staff are nice enough, but don't try too hard to help.
