“Worst hostel in the whole of argentina”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2011

We booked a double room this hostel for 4 nights, and they take your money upfront when you arrive, without showing you the room. The room itself was tiny, the beds were horrible, the whole place looked completely run down and the cleanliness was simply non existent. The pillows were horrible and the lingerie for the bed was broken in several parts. Using the bathroom was the kind of experience one would consider traumatising. Yes, it was THAT dirty. It was also impossible to sleep, due to their bar outside.
The big surprise came next morning, when the breakfast was completely disgusting and inexistent. There was some plastic container with something which can be hardly described as juice, there was also one milk bottle and you could get tea or instant coffee. No bread, no cereals, no yoghurt, no nothing.
The pool and the common area were also filthy and very VERY ancient. The kind of furniture you´d expect to find at the corner of the street, used by poor homeless people.
Do NOT go there...

“THEFT AND HELL!!”

The worst hostel I´ve ever stayed at, the staff was seriously unfriendly and made us all feel very bad, even if we just asked for our breakfast (which was two pieces of dry bread).

We met a really nice couple there, but someone broke in to their lockers and took all of their money. Two days later someone sneaked in to our dorm when we were asleep and took all of our money too. The staff wouldn´t help us with any of this and didn´t even say they were sorry.

ONE good thing with this place: One of the guys in the staff was really sweet and helpful, Mattias thank you, and please go work somewhere else.

Right, they´ll tell you they have a kitchen for you, but you´ll soon find out you´re not allowed to use it after 20.00 and that the knives are locked up.

If you already stay at this place, walk across the street and switch to one of the rooms in the supernice Damajuana hostel, a little pricier but it was way worse loosing 1000 pesos in one hit.

“Disappointment”

The Lonely Planet raves about this place but personally I was horribly disappointed and couldn´t wait to escape. The main problems being the bar downstairs playing really loud music til all hours, the dirty bathrooms and the lack of air con/working fans in the bedrooms. True, there is an outdoor area and a pool but it's also very dirty. Proximity to nice eateries and bars in the evening, plus the variety of tours on offer is really the only plus points in my opinion.

“Ideally located but shame about everything else”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 April 2009

Stopping to visit Mendoza whilst travelling between Santiago and Buenos Aires is a must. The town and its surrounding landscape can offer so much to see and do and i was sad to leave this picture perfect paradise where the local people openly welcome you. However, it was a shame that the staff at this hostel were not as friendly or helpful as their compatriots. Upon arrival we were under the impression that we had booked a private room with shared bathroom facilities and it was only the error of paying up front before seeing the room that made us see out our 4 night duration. The room allocated to us had crammed in more beds than one would expect causing so much trouble that fellow travellors sharing the room left the next day. There was no space between the private lockers and the beds to organise your belongings and as it was located directly above the bar downstairs, light sleepers would stuggle to get any shut eye. The outside communal facilities are the only bonus to this hostel with a pool, bbq and large back garden, but the communal shower with combined toilet was disgusting. You could barely fit into the shower cubicle let alone turn around to wash yourself properly and the toilet would cause you to think twice about using it. The additional problem with the hostel is that it is in its right a bar/club downstairs but the communal kitchen area which is available to all people staying there, is also the main kitchen preparation area for customers ordering food from outside. Therefore the kitchen was always busy in the evenings as they deep fried food to be sent to customers outside. It was a shame that venue did not live up to expectation and we had hoped that the staff would help to make life easier. But they continuously refused to assist us in phoning other hostels or providing travel advice suggesting that we log on to the one computer in the hostel which was busy 24/7. So do look around for other places before venturing here.

“Best avoided”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 December 2008

Hostel has a small pool which is nice but overall the place is filthy. 1 tiny shower for 2 or three dorms. Matresses had springs coming up inside them (i had to ask to have mine changed as it would have been impossible to sleep in it). Kitchen was filthy. Travelers seemed to have a good time however, but if you want a clean hostel, best avoid this one and use the one further up the road in Mendoza on Av Villanueve. (don´t have the name for it but it is cleaner as we checked it out)

  • Liked — the small pool was a nice to have, the loungers could have been a few more however.
  • Disliked — everything else
