This hostel could be so fantastic, it has all the elements of greatness, but somethign doesnt quite work.
i was in an 8 bed female only dorm. the room was WAY too small for 8 beds. this was my 82nd hostel of a round the world trip, and it was most definitely the most crowded. when you have 8 people and their luggage in a room, there is no room to walk between the beds.
ah - the beds. the beds were the most rickety bunks ive ever been in, even climbing the ladders i was dicing with death. one up, the bed was very small and there was no rail on either side, meaning i slept the whole night absolutely rigid in case i fell out. also one bathroom to each floor is absolutely ridiculous. you have 2 or 3 dorms and a private room to a floor, thats almost an insane number of people sharing on bathroom. i spent the whole time running up and down the stairs trying to find another one. also - i truly beleive this is the noiseist nights 'sleep' i have ever had. it was like being asleep on the central reservation.
i had no problem with bed bugs as opposed to the below reviews, and i thought the breakfast was very impressive.. bread, dulce de leche, cereal, juice, tea / coffee / hot chocolate, fruit, i thought was very good.
i met some cool people in the bar area and staff were friendly, if not that helpful. i thought refusing to let me leave my passport behind reception, or letting me use a locker before i checked in, was a bit mental, instead telling me their unsecured luggage room would be perfectly safe. also the guy who booked me on the airport shuttle booked me onto the wrong one then cancelled it, so another girl had to save the day otherwise i would still be in BA now and would have missed my flight!
its ok as far as city hostels go, but with some small improvements could be brilliant.
Room Tip: try and get one away from the front. you will not sleep if the window is open
