Lounge area was large, comfortable and nice. The breakfast was bread, eggs that could be cooked, margarine and jam. The rooms were compact and warm. I was probably unlucky with the showers, as they were frequently cold.
This hostel, which has the potential to be outstanding, is run in favour of the long-term 'visitors'. They're allowed to assume that they own the dormitory that they stay in. Thus, they try to bully and dictate the use of the dormitory to short-term 'guests'. This included being told that it was wrong to use the dormitory to sleep in. I was informed that sleeping in the dormitory is a hindrance to long-term 'visitors' who want to make phones calls, use their laptops and have social gatherings in the dormitory. Thus, I understand why other hostels regularly move long-term 'visitors/travellers', in order for them not to assume ownership of the dormitory.
The cleanliness score is based on the dirt that had built up inside the shower floor area. The area where people generally stand in the shower had cream-coloured tiles and the surrounding area was black. Also, blood was on the back of the door. In one area, it was clotted and clinging to the door frame. In another area, it was a smiley face (how cheerful). As well as, what appeared to be extracts from peoples noses on the wall. The small, windowless toilet rooms were used as smoking rooms. This was observed for the duration of my stay.
The location score is based on the dodgy people who hung around on the street, especially the people who had a make-shift house, made out of discarded sofas, on the street corner by the hostel front door. I believe this hostel could be so much better.
