“average bed and breakfast, but not in good position”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2010

the position is not good to move around in the city, the block is not nice though there seemed to be no danger around. it is close to placa dorrego and its Sunday's feria of stalks. the rooms are large but they are humid and you smell a stink of mould; mine had no air conditioning (it was summer and hot outside), just a large ceiling fan, but you couldn't set the speed and it ran too fast. the bathroom had no windows and the stink increased. yet the rooms are nicely decorated and the building has recently been refurbished. it's quiet inside; you are given the key. The owner is nice, he is helpful if you need him or information. breakfast is very simple, the quality is ok. the price is not too convenient. better to lodge at a central hotel

“Perfect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2009

Wonderful B&B in San Telmo. Our room had two levels with a small living room. The bed was big and confortable, same for the bathroom. Raul served us a nice breakfast every morning, and helped us with everything. Lots of nice places to eat around, and a short walk to the tube or the center. Would definitely stay again if we go back to Bs As.

“Beautifully restored B&B with heaps of charm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2009

We stayed for eight nights in May/June. The B&B has been very, very beautifully restored, and the loft room where we stayed was very cozy. High ceiling, bare brick walls and lovely bathroom. The owner and co-owner (and rest of staff) were very welcoming and helpful. Highly recommended!

“Great value and pleasantly comfortable stay...fantastic water pressure from the shower”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 May 2009

My boyfriend and I stayed here for a week in May and were very pleased with this place. I highly recommend the loft room if you can get it. There isn't much going on in the immediate neighborhood, but we wanted to spend a lot of time in San Telmo, so the location was great since it was just a short walk to all the places we wanted to hang out.

My boyfriend lived in Buenos Aires for a couple of years, so since he was my official tour guide for my first visit to the city, my contribution to the trip was to find a place to stay. After all of the reviews I read, I decided on this place. Unlike some places you see, the photos from their website are accurate. The building is adorable and the layout is great with the open atrium. We spent a lot of time sitting at the small tables outside our room just relaxing between adventures in the city.

As for location, my BF mentioned that years ago that neighborhood would have been off-limits in terms of safety, but it seems a lot has changed in the past 7 years or so. Since there aren't many businesses or much activity in the couple of blocks surrounding the hotel, you might feel a little nervous about walking around at night. We took a lot of cabs, but in actuality, I don't think we had anything to worry about at all.

The room was very nice and spacious. The bed was very comfortable and the water pressure in the shower was fantastic! It actually made me sad to go back home to our less than stellar water pressure.

Having the free wi-fi was a huge plus! Especially since we lost an ATM card on our first day and had to make lots of Skype calls and bank transfers from the laptop we brought to make sure we'd have cash available for the trip.

The place is very quiet...almost too quiet. The walls are thin, so you hear any activity outside of your room. If you are returning to the room late at night, you have to be really careful to keep the noise down so that you don't disturb anyone. We were a little too chatty when we got back to the room after our first late night out and I felt bad, because I'm pretty sure we disturbed someone else's sleep.

Breakfast in the morning was lovely, even though we missed it most days because we just got up too late. The staff is nice enough. They did make fun of my Spanish, but to be fair, what little Spanish I know is atrocious. Thank goodness I was traveling with my own personal translator. There is no need though, since the whole staff speaks English.

One reviewer mentioned that she almost felt like their presence was an intrusion for the staff, and I have to admit that I got the same kind of vibe. I'm not sure that my boyfriend felt the same way since he was much more chatty with everybody.

Overall, I was very happy with this selection. I would probably stay here again, and might even feel more comfortable with the staff on a second trip. It's a great value and almost feels like your own personal secret hideaway.

P.S. If you're visiting Buenos Aires, check out Tierra Santa (weird and unbelievable) and go for drinks at the Gibraltar, Bangalore and La Puerta Roja (full disclosure: this is a plug for our friends' bars)
