Checked into this Super 8 off of the 10 Fwy while travelling to New Mexico for college admission...upon entering room, immediately noticed that the room had a feeling of not being as clean as expected; just had a "shabby" feel to it. Small things like bugs in toilet, toilet paper and tissue haphazardly displayed. Two rooms were reserved. Upon walking on tile floor felt like it was giving way; upon inspection, noticed that tiles were broken and/or not set into floor. This extended into bathroom; hazardous, could have easily cut a foot or toe. Complained to desk; was given another room that had two beds instead of the single that was reserved, which meant less space in the room. It was late; whatever, wasn't going to make issue of it. Upon returning, discovered television in second room had blown out; electrical smoke filled room, causing kids to have to open door to try to clear it out. The AC in that room also went out. Called back to desk; once again, had to go back down and get another room. Now back in the room that was originally replaced, noticed that the floor tiles in this room were not set also. We initially called down to desk to request a late check-out due to having to go back and forth to the front desk, but were refused; told they don't allow late check outs and that we had to be out by 11am or else we would be charged another night. We had had enough at that point and requested our money back so we could fond somewhere else that wasn't as unsafe and had better management. Was told by the girl at the desk that there were no refunds and that we would have to call down to speak to a manager at 6am. Let's see...it's already 2am, we haven't slept yet and we're going to get up after four hours in an uncomfortable, unsafe, less-than-exemplary room to ask a manager to accomodate us only to get told no? And then get back on the road and drive the remaining three hours to New Mexico safely? No, don't think so. We argued with the girl for a while who claimed she couldn't contact anyone over her head to make a decision at that hour. Her attitude and comments were very unprofessional and displayed very poor customer service. We were esseentially stuck and at that point I resigned to just get some rest, make do and then complain the next day before leaving for the refund.
Next day, we spoke to another desk clerk; the manager once again was out...who would not give us a refund but told us we were entitled to one the previous night. What the..? Now we're angry but decide to deal with the corporate office upon return because we have a college student to transport and check in by that evening. Upon returning to LA, contacted corporate who helped us to obtain the refund we were deserving of, but not without complaint from the hotel manager who initially offered only a 20% discount and accused us of trying to get a free room. We held firm and refused to negotiate and received the refund. Thank you to the corporate parent company but never again will I stay at this Super 8 in Marana. I'd rather sleep in my car and wash up in a gas station bathroom.
