My husband and I traveled to Tucson to visit our son April 20-23. We really only needed someplace to stay for the evening as most of our time was spent with our son. Check in was quick and easy; we received the highest floor, room away from the elevator per our request. The lobby is in the midst of being remodeled but we had no problems as no work was ongoing over the weekend.
The room was clean and, while recently updated, the work was poorly done. While the updates don't impact the comfort or cleanliness of the room, it was sloppy and not done to the standards I would expect of most hotel chains and certainly NOT I would accept in my own home. (Sloppy painting, floor grout cracking and coming out, etc.) It's a shame that the shabby work was accepted by the owner. This gives me pause as to what other lower standards would be acceptable for this property.
A pet peeve of mine is placing all the bath linens on a shelf over the toilet. Sadly this is the case in the bathroom here; I always immediately move the towels to the vanity area after I wipe it down with (always carry them) Lysol wipes. There was nothing wrong with the room but it was nothing special either. As an earlier review said - it's the basic, standard, Holiday Inn Express.
The breakfast was typical; nothing special but the usual HIE breakfast spread. The breakfast area was a decent size but, upon exiting the elevator on the first floor, the air did not seem to be working. We ended up taking breakfast to our room as it was uncomfortable even just sitting in the breakfast room.
Parking was easy and there was plenty to be found. The area is safe and has a number of restaurants, some basic shops, and even a theatre close by. Easy access to I-10. We had two double beds at the rate of $114 per night, plus tax. While we will consider staying here again, there is nothing that would bring us back so we will look at other hotels for our next stay.
One note: while the train could be heard, we live in a town that has numerous trains traveling through day and night so it was not an issue for us. However, if you are accustomed to a quiet night's sleep, you may want to look elsewhere or use a good pair of earplugs.
