Although I have eaten at the Blue Star before, I had never stayed there until this September. I had a bit of a 'false start' as they didn't give me the room I'd asked for, and was given a basement room instead, however, after three days, they helped me move all my belongings over to a first floor balcony room, which was lovely. I wouldn't recommend a basement room because you have to have your curtains pulled when the lights are on, otherwise people walking past can see in. Also of course, you don't have a view, and if like me you're given the one opposite the end of another block, all you can see is a wall!
I can't think of any other downsides to the Blue Star apart from the internet being VERY slow! In fact so slow that I didn't bother after the first try. The staff are all very willing and friendly, and a special mention needs to be made of Osman and George in the restaurant, and Zumrut on reception. However, a few have left now (Osman, Zumrut and Ardana) so the dynamics will have changed by the time I go back next May. I'm sure whoever they find to replace them will be lovely too.
The food is excellent, and you get very large portions! Everything is very clean, and the hotel is very near the beach and the shopping area. There are even a couple of small supermarkets just over the road where you can buy the bottles of water that you're not meant to smuggle into the hotel....... :-D
All I can say is - roll on next May!
Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a balcony room.
