“Pleasant Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2010

We enjoyed our visit to the Antik Beyazit Hotel. The rooms were roomy and cool and the tiled floors kept the air dust free.

The staff were very helpful, for example, when we couldn't find a nearby restaurant tucked up a hidden allyway, the porter accompanied us through the streets to the front door!

The breakfasts are of a high Turkish standard and will keep you going all day, with cooked as well as salad and cold options.

The only problem we encountered was parking, there are a limited number of spaces and they are so coveted that if you eventually get one you car is effectively trapped in during daylight hours by other cars blocking your exit.

“Bad experience”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 July 2009

Like others have said the hotel did not live up to the advertising.I also booked through small hotels of Turkey and expected something like I had experienced in Gaziantep and Sanliurfa
The hotel is well situated, close to the bazaar shops and the museum. From the front it looks impressive but inside it is just another hotel. Our room was adequate, not small, with good aircon and bathroom facilities. The breakfast was fine but for the listed price of 10euros(we had it included)it was monstrously overpriced
We had initially booked 2 nights thinking there was more to see but when we got there we realized one night would be enough. The next morning we told them we wanted to check out and it wasn't a problem. We paid up and left and went on to the museum.a short time later as I was thinking it over I realized they had overcharged me by $20.I had put a deposit down of $40,the room rate was $100 but they charged me $80
I went back and unfortunately the guy who spoke English was gone and the receptionist spoke limited English. She did understand enough to call the guy on the phone.Despite my proof of what I needed to pay( I had the email)he was adamant that I paid the correct amount.I don't know if he charged a penalty for early check out on a reservation or was just trying to rip me off
So not a good experience.BTW the posted rate3 for our room was $115 which is pretentious beyond belief
If you want an average hotel that is overpriced this one is the one for you

“Decent, but over-hyped”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 May 2009

We have the same sense as other reviewers of this hotel: this is a reasonable hotel in a building that is certainly very atmospheric, but it is not as outstanding as the Sawday's / Small Hotels of Turkey suggest. We were crammed into a room that would have been fine as a normal double but, with with additional beds for 2 kids became a real squeeze. Our 2 years old slept in a strange contraption on the first night that looked about as old as the building. To the credit of the hotel staff, they changed this for our second night after it collapsed on her during the first...

Staff were generally friendly and helpful. Our sense from strolling around Antakya was that this was as good a hotel as any in the town, and certainly well-located (quiet but central). The breakfast was good but there's currently no bar service in the lobby area. This isn't an issue in a cosmopolitan city like Antakya.

“French Colonial Courthouse that doesn't quite live up to the hype”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 April 2009

We were expecting great things. We booked via the small hotels of Turkey website and had just moved on from the Belkis Han in Gaziantep. It did not have the personal touch that we expected.

The staff were attentive and helpful throughout. The other guests appeared to be business people. There is no lift access for disabled clients. There are ground floor rooms but those with a walking impairment will struggle to get to the mezzanine dining area. Our room was large, with a big balcony overlooking the street. There was a bit of street noise but this wasn't too intrusive. The hotel opened almost 20 years ago and is in need of an update. The bathroom sink was cracked, as was the shower tray. The television has a couple of english language channels.

Breakfast was OK. The cheese selection was good but there wasn't a lot for carnivores. The coffee was instant granules.

There are a couple of new hotels in the neighbourhood (including the Hotel Savon that looks very attractive from the outside). This competition will hopefully make the owners sit up and think about upgrading their room facilities. An average hotel.

“Short but pleasant stay at the Antik Beyazit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2008

We were only in Antakya for little more than 24 hours so our stay in the hotel was brief.
The hotel is centrally located but down a street a little away from the river. Our room was on the upper floor and was roomy but only had a skylight window so there was essentially no view and the lighting was poor. The furnishings were adequate if somewhat dated.
As the building is a more historical one, contemporary modernity is not the style here.
The TV and remote control seemed to have a life of it's own and if you were staying with chidren I'd be concerned that there was unrestricted access to an adult channel. Other channels appeared at different times of day (eg. CNN only in the morning).
The staff were very helpful both at check in and upon leaving. We were given a town centre map and a quick run down of the tourist sites. On leaving, the reception staff organised a private car to take us to the airport (40YTL). As there was torrential rain, not having to catch the bus (which is unreliable please note!) or stand at a taxi rank was very helpful. Restaurant recommendations were also given.
Antakya is not very big so everything in the centre is easily reached in a few minutes on foot.
We paid 60YTL each for a twin room B&B via a Turkish travel website. Even though there is some competition for hotel beds, I thought this was a bit on the high side for the standard of hotel but that shouldn't detract anyone from staying there at all.

  • Liked — Good reception staff service
  • Disliked — Poor window and lighting in the room
